Hit Grantsville Res. bout 6 am to beat the tent city that has been forming out there. Didn't do me no good as I think the fish have been super pressured and now a small case of lock jaws has formed. Managed three trout for being the first one on, and the last one off. Slow fishin, but always great to get out. One good note, I finally managed a brown outta there. I knew there had to be one or two left in there since the last planting. Was a welcome site to see her come thru the ice after fishin my cushions off all day.

Also, one bad note to all of us who smoke and haven't quit yet. Throwing your butts on the ice, or in the lake when water is soft, can have a detrimental effect on our fisheries. As I checked the guts on one of my overly chunky bows, I found it now to be genetics that she was so fat, but rather a foam plug stuck in her guts, blocking passage of the rest of the sludge she had ingested. I have been guilty myself of being lazy and chucking a butt or two overboard, but now I wonder how many fish have been taken out of the system by such a preventable cause. I knew a fish would rise up to the hookless cigarette butt hopper fly, just never thought that much about it. Then, when I was out to grantsville, I counted numerous spots where the previous party had just littered the ice w/ butts. I challenge us all to be more responsible smokers and non-smokers alike. If you witness folks chuckin butts, or any trash for that matter, don't be afraid to politely inform about what makes this such a fun sport.

good call! last year people were digging butts and peanut shells out of the trout comming from DC

I drove out the last night to see what it looked like and there was about a 3 ft gap from the shore to the ice of water how thick was the ice? I am assuming you got on the ice from the north side. I have only fished it once this year for about a hour there was too many people and I ended up picking up there blowing trash instead of fishing.

ice was easily 6", but gettin on it is another story, ecspecialy now after this rain and warmth. Gonna need a long plank I'm sure. Hopefully this will calm the crowds a bit.

Went out this morning. Two people fishing the open water from the shore and one came it with a kayak. I don't know if he actually put it on the water or not.
Very muddy.

Yeah, it's just lazy to throw your butts instead of tucking them back into the pack.

News flash: If you smoke, you already stink like cigarettes and keeping the butts in the pack won't matter much, plus it boosts your fishing karma for not being a litterbug.[:p]
