I generally fish on strawberry, but my church group was headed to DC to do some family fishing so my wife and I decided to join them. My kids are only 2 1/2 years and 9 months, so my wife and I drove separately and we parked at charleston. We went to go and pay, but the envelopes were gone and we asked our friend we were with if they charged in the winter and he said that he did not think so. I was excited to fish and so we headed out. Big mistake. . . we ended up with two tickets. Oh well. Not sure what I would have done without an envelope, but maybe I could have written on the money or something. The sign did say that it was year around, so we only have ourselves to blame. Anyway, I don't want to make this post negative and I would have been glad to pay for the chance to park my 2wd vehicles, but it is a bummer the way it worked out. Does anyone know how much this will set me back?

At any rate we had a great time. I started drilling my traditional 3 holes. Two for poles and one for a fish finder. I finished the first hole and started on the next and looked down and my son was up to his hip in the first hole. I thought that would end the trip for the family, be he was a trooper and made it for another two hours. He kept wanting to hold the fishing pole and "stir" as he termed it. My daughter had a great time just looking around. I did hook into a planter bow before they left at 2 hours and my son kept saying "good morning" to the fish. I thought that good night would be more appropriate, but oh well.

After the family left I was able to catch several other fish including an 18 incher. It was a fun trip and the 3 fish I kept have been delicious, but I am afraid that their price per pound will be a lot once we pay the parking tickets.

Looks like you had a great time. It's never too early to get the kids hooked on fishing.

My son did the same thing a few years back. Scared me then and now. Funny how a 3year old will fit in a 8" hole. Glad he is safe. Looks like you had a great time. Thanks for the post.

I'm not sure what that will cost but I found the annual pass is the way to go. You never have to worry about envelopes or what if. Keep the pass on the mirror and your good to go. Best $70 I've ever spent.
