Decided to take a break from ice fishing today, and take my brittany out for some chuckar hunting. (my poor lab was so upset that he didn't get to go, since he has about 20 stitches in his chest from a run in with some barbed wire). Anyways, we didn't do amazing by any means, but she pointed the first one, and down it went. The second one flushed right at the top of a ridge, jumped up about a foot, and down the other side it went. (too close to the dog in the little window I had). That was it for the birds. All in all, better than working...

those stupid birds are as close to pure evil as you can find in nature. I've hunted them a few times now and lost several pounds in sweat and learned a couple new swears but haven't shot one yet. Ever read McManus' "chuckar madness"? that about sums it up

I have not read that, may have to look into it. Anyways, I am far from an expert (Actually this is the third year I have hunted them, and the first one I shot was on this year's opener). Therefore, I have put in many miles to learn a few things about these dang birds. The sure do live in some nasty terrain. Well, I have gotten to the point I can usually at least see some on a trip out. Getting within range, or being able to shoot without falling flat on your ass is another thing.
