I was extremely excited to get a day on the ice, but the conditions were just terrible. We got an early start and set up in a usually productive spot by the island. We set up the ice house for kids and got all of the poles in the water in three different pods in order to up our chances of success. THen the wind came began to howl and it screamed all day.

The wind was so strong it snapped the suspension lines on my tent, then the skirt seperated from the rest of the tent and we had to give up on the tent until I can get it repaired. My neighbor ran the kids back to the house since the gusts were knocking them off of their feet on the slick ice.

We had one school of Kokanee come through. Our group caught six of them we released three of them since they were the really small one year olds.

I stepped into two holes today. The first one was in the dark and I am lucky I didn't break my leg. I felt like my shinI was bleeding all day and when I got home that feeling was confirmed. Later in the day there was so much water on the ice you just couldn't see all the holes I stepped in another one (opposite leg) up to my hip. That is when we decided that we had probably had enough around 2:00.

The shore ice is terrible and you wouldn't be able to get on without the boat dock. I couldn't go out by the line because of huge sheets of ice breaking up. Hopefully the next seven days will solidify the ice again.

Overall it was one of those days that makes you appreciate the good ones. Usually I go ice fishing to recover from the rigors of the week. Now I feel like I need to recover from battling the elements.[crazy]

Be careful if you go.

Thanks for the report! That sounds like yesterday except you didn't get the inch of rain with it. I'll wait until 4 days of cold have sealed the ice again. If the wind keeps blowing it's going to stack the ice on the bank and we'll have to start over again. [Image: dumb.gif]
