I caught a Koke through the ice a fews years back. I was fishing in the ladders area with the traditional jigs and such in 40 feet of water. It was crazy because the Koke was red as if it missed the spawn by a couple of months. Anyway, kept it. Took it home and ate it. It was firm and tasted just fine.

If someone knows, i doubt they will tell you. The strawberry kokanee are one of the toughest to consistently catch even during their summer prime time , let alone through the ice.
some secrets are best kept.....
Good luck though.

I remember about 14 years ago fishing right off the boat ramp the water was only 15' deep and really clear. We laid on the ice and looked down the hole and you could see hundreds of them swimming all around we tried everything but no takers. It seemed to me that there were quite a few that were still red or mostly red.

Welcome to BFT. In all of my years ice fishing at Strawberry I have only seen one salmon caught through the ice. That fish was caught by The Strawberry Marina fishing after dark by a fishing buddy of mine.
