The park service has begun dredging Boulder Harbor to restore functionality to the former launch site. They plan to have in completed in time for Memorial Day Weekend in late May of this year. The plan is to install the the launch ramp at an elevation of 1,069 feet.

If you build it, we will come. haha

"The National Park Service generally estimates that every 20-foot drop in water levels costs $6 million, Munoz said, because the boat launch ramps must be extended and crews are hired to do the work."

Judging by the pictures, the work doesn't look cheap.
Something to consider when paying the fee increases.[fishin]

Thats great news if you have a boat, but I dont like many others who visit lake mead rec area. Really looks like there dishing out the bucks on this one. Lets just hope they wont have to close it again lol. I would really like to see some improved campgrounds. Wouldnt be a bad idea to allow ATV shore access either.[fishin]

I'd hope that they would design it so that it could withstand some drop from the 1069 feet it's being installed at. It would be Sad to see it become unusable again if the water drops further. It sure would seem like a waste of money at that point. They've been chasing the water line for some time now. Anyway, that's why boaters get charged extra for use of the launches.

I used to not have a boat. Now, I have a boat I can't use! [frown] Even worse than not having one, let me tell you.

I understand not trying to trash the idea or nothing. Didnt even think of the extra vessel fee. Also heard they "did" have a fishing pier within the harbor. I hate to see boulder harbor closed like old las vegas bay & many other areas closed to low water.

Im also confident it wont be closed again. I went to 33hole last night for a kittyfest. I went to my usual point and it was nearly submerged. You can definalty see the increase of water right now.

Right on, Whizzle. We can use it for nasty weather when the swells are too big for the jonboat. Oh and I promise I won't forget the beer in the truck next time, hah.

Yeah, there was a fishing pier. Hopefully that will go back in as well. Some BFT'ers have reported decent success fishing around there in the past.

Good to hear there's a noticeable rise in the water level. I hear a lot of good reports about 33 but I'm not much of a hiker. How long does it take to make the hike down to the water from the parking area at 33hole?

Ha! Well, we know there will always be an alternate...

You could be fishing in 5-10 mins if you wanted too but most of the areas where I did well are pretty far away from the parking lot. Just like anywhere else on the lake its hit or miss down there.

by the way the water would never go below 1075 ft. with the legistlation they wrote up....we would just give up some water rights if we hit that mark
