I got out with Adam Broughton on Monday to celebrate MLK day and his day off. We got on the water at 830 and I had to go at 1130. We went to play with my new Humminbird 1198 and also do some water temperature testing in extreme depths. We tested depths in 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100ft. There's a ton of bait mostly small threadfin and tons of alewife hugging bottom in 70-100ft so I've been curious as to why the bait has went so deep. I have guessed it was temperature related, based on our studies/data I was wrong.

Adam and I spent a large portion of our day testing water temps in different creeks where I've been catching a lot of fish and seeing bait. I was shocked by our findings. The surface water temperature throughout the lake is 45 degrees. The water temperature at 60ft deep is 45.5, from 70-100ft the water temp is still just 45-46. There is virtually no difference in the surface temp and the temp at 100ft where a large % of our bait fish are right now. That is incredible to me.

We stopped on some fish along the way catching a handfull of nice spots and a couple of Stripers on spoons and drop shots. This 22lbr was a beast. I caught her on 8lb fluro and spinning rod, 10 minute fight. Got to love those mean salty's.

You can view the pics here, I can't get to upload... http://www.carterslakeguideservice.com/I....jpg

LB
