I'm an avid fisherman and have been confined to the shoreline, due to lack of a boat. I'm thinking about buying a Saturn Inflatable Kaboat from an online company called BoatsToGo. This boat seems really practical in it's design, but I was wondering about th stability factor? Any info on these boat/kayak hybrids?

My first question is, "WHY?"

I can't think of a single application that I would safely trust an inflatible boat, unless it's a Zodiak brand, and even then, i'd only have one as a dingy.

The other side is, most of the boats I saw listed on the webpage you provided are not the kind you "blow up at the waters edge," and pack neatly in your trunk. More than likely, they need to be trailered like any other boat, and would probably be a bear to paddle. So you'd need some sort of propulsion, rather it be electric or gas.

I think you should save your pennies and buy a small john boat. Even in the 14' range with a 9.9 outboard, you can stand up and pee out of it, move around, and comfortably fish 2 people safely. You should be able to find a nice used john boat for around 2 grand, which is comparible to some of the inflateables on that website. Check out boattrader.com....... I think you'd be happier with an honest to goodness boat. A smaller john boat won't take up any room, easy to maintain, and are much safer. [cool] I looked up 14' footers in just my area w/ in 50 miles, and found 5 around 2k.

If I were you I would go for a pontoon or float tube. Lots of styles and brands to choose from.

Venture Outdoors
Water Skeeter
Outcast
Creek Company
Bucks Bags
Classic Accessories

To name a few. You can get these almost anywhere such as Sportsmans Warehouse, Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops etc...

You could also check out a SportsPal or a Radisson canoe they are unsinkable made with 2056 Marine Aluminum 2 layers and in between the 1st 2 layers of aluminum is foam the the top is another layer of foam. then you have 2 sponson on 1 on each side of the canoe for stabilizability and floatation 14' extra wide transom weight is 56 pounds, they have others double pointed end canoe and square transom. You can't believe the prices and how the handle. SportsPal are in Canada and Radisson is USA. Check them out

I don't have one, but I have thought about one before for those occasions when I would want to travel a ways with a motor. They look pretty fun. I know that Outcast makes something like it also and they seem pretty stable.

I think it really depends on what type of fishing you do and what you have to transport it with. If you fish mainly in lakes and fairly close to shore I really like float tubes or a small pontoon boat. If you need to take out your family then a larger boat. The float tubes allow you to fish hands free without having to anchor or constantly row to adjust your position. They are quiet, light, and easy to launch from just about anywhere.

Look around on the float tube forum and maybe even the kayak forum.

And I am of the old "It's too good to be true" & "You get what you pay for"
I actually watched the first 12+ minute youtube. Found it interesting that he PULLS the boat down river, then the next is all scenery. The last four minutes, he actually takes it down some , white water. That was reassuring.

The price is still low enough I wonder why.

The Kayak shape is interesting.

One boat I am familiar with is North Fork Outdoors

I know he has put a 25 hp. on one. We have a 5 hp on the 10'6" model. It rolls up small enough to fit in a trunk. The Motor however, is a different story. We put a 2X4 across the back of out truck bed so the motor travels upright.

A kayak is your next option. They are cheap, durable, and provide a miriad of configurations.

Direct Boats has a good selection starting at ~$399.
