Does anybody know the conditions at either Rockport or Mantua? Do you know when the gate at Rockport opens in the morning?
Thanks,
Paul

I have a buddy that fished Rockport Thursday and he said there was no problem gettin on and off the ice, he iced a few bows but said it was kinda slow. I not sure bout the gate but i have went threw before sunrise on many occasions.

The posted hours for the gate at Rockport says that it opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m.
I fished just off the boat ramp today (friday) and the conditions were perfect. A little snow on top of the ice. Just enough so the ice wasn't slippery to walk on, and not enough to make it hard to walk in or pull a loaded sled.

Hard to give you an accurate report on how the fishing is overall. We only had time to fish for one hour today, 12 noon until 1 p.m. Not the most ideal time to fish, but you take what you can get sometimes.
I took my 4 year old out for his first time on the ice. In that hour he managed to catch one nice rainbow. We were straight out from the ramp in 25 feet of water. He had a small orange ice fly tipped with a meal worm. For me that one fish and the
it put on his face made the trip worth it. For someone else, one fish in that one hour might not be worth the trip.
I was there on tuesday with my two older kids and that day was really slow. We fished from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. and didn't catch any. We had a couple hits but most of the day showed a quiet screen on the sonar. Fished everything between 19 and 45 feet that day. Just one of those days.
Good luck whatever you decide to do!

Thanks for the report. Life doesn't get much better then that, the best times of my life were spent fishing with my father. [fishin]

We fished mantua for a few hours today and we were both one perch away from being skunked. My brothers was a chubby one but very slow for us. Not to say you wouldn't do better but we couldnt get them to bit. Good luck!
