Saw you guys out there. We were just a little north of you. How was your day. Slower for us. I did, however, manage to get a nice brown up to the hole, only to have my hook break. I am guessing it was around 22-24 inches. It was BIG! My buddy was right there and couldn't believe the size of it. As I pulled to get his head through the hole, the freaking hook broke off. Oh well, all we could do was laugh.

Well there are good days and there are slowwww days. This one was on the slow side. But it was still fun. Thanks for the ride down and letting me fish with ya Ben.

We were there as well, started slow but managed to get into a good number of perch and a few rainbows. The polar plunge was fun to watch for a little bit but then got right back to the perch

It was definitely slower than before we had our mini spring thaw earlier this week, but we didn't do too bad. Limited out on trout and caught a few perch.

Sounds about like my story. Got there about 7, smooth ice to drag the sled over. Then after sunrise that wind kicked up. Thought my tent might take a venture while I drilled scout holes to try to find my perch-patch. Never quite did, so settled in and waited for them to come to me, and they did.
My first fish (rainbow) didn't want to sit still for a photo, and about took a run down the camera hole!
Occasional perch school wandered through, and the bursts of trout now and then. Waxies on various glow jigs. Mostly vertical.
Tried some of the new Tungston jigs, and they did well. Seemed like as long as there's fresh bait -the hit'd come.
Never did get the camera dialed in, but at least knew generally what was happening. Dust clouds - trout on!
Right around 11 (my witching hour) Ben and Derek dragged by. Had hoped to bring the boy for the Polar Plunge, but plans changed. B&D went to hunt for big browns, I had to head out. Took my troutsies, and a few perchlets and headed home. That "last fish" turned into two more trout as I was packing up. They were glad to find their way back down the holes.
Tomorrow might take me to Newton, or back to Hyrum. (wondering 'bout Newton's edges. Hyrum was solid all across.Good ice!)
Another nice day on the ice.

Sounds like Hyrum's edges are better then Newton's. I went to Newton today and needed about a 6' plank to get out on the ice.

Thanks for the feedback. Hmm - need a plank!
How was the fishing there?
Hmmm - big plank. Hmmm. Maybe I'll just hit Hyrum again.... but alas - the crappie!?!?!?! (and musky)

and I thought you looked ready to cry!![[Image: yell.gif]](http://www.bigfishtackle.com/images/gforum/yell.gif)
One of those moments you just relive in your mind's eye!
So how did you guys do over by the shore? I tried over there yesterday, but it was pretty quiet. Did collect some perch and got in a few fights with the bows. One decided to keep one of my new prize tungston jigs! Grr. I'm gonna have to find that one and get it back!

We didn't do any better. Just a few dink perch. I caught two that were keeper size, but I threw them back. Not worth it to me to take two perch home. I will most likely be back out Saturday, unless another venue sounds more tempting. I was thinking about Pineview, but I don't know.

The reason I am not sure about pineview is the perch fest this weekend. Don't really want the crowds. I know hyrum could be crowded too, but it's only 10 minutes from me.

Ben, I'm thinking that if were fishing by the bank earlier in the morning, we might have had better luck. I couldn't believe the size of that one fish those guys had iced (and thankfully put back down the hole). And that one you had before breaking off.....!
BTW I was looking at that 'ticket' on my windshield that wasn't really a ticket. Just a warning, no citation. Seems they're out in force to milk every cent they can from you. (like the $6 fee wasn't enough)

Haha. You are probably right - regarding both topics. Like I said, I am pretty sure I will be back there Saturday. I really can't see myself venturing too far away from here. I mean, after all, I do have the itch to hook into another big one and actually LAND it this time!! [

You better use a bigger and better hook! I wish I would have seen that brute.

That was my reaction after I broke off a lunker at the hole. I swapped on one of my regular reels - with braid line. None of that ice-edge to break ME off!
As luck would have it - it took a dip in the hole yesterday, and as chill as it got - all the workings froze up good! Grr. Next rod!
The wind picked up late afternoon like it had on Sat, and 'bout blew my tent away, and with a camera and rod lines down - THAT would be an equipment malfunction!
Ran out of gas running the smoker last night. Grrr. Ok, so my TWO tanks are both MT. Turned to some charcoal to ' git 'er done!'

Nice. Although for me, it wasn't my line that broke. It was the hook on the small jig I was using. That is the 3rd Northland Tackle jig I used that the hook broke. Makes me wonder what they are using to make their hooks.
