Today was one of the most frustrating days I've had in my fifteen years on the ice. I made my first ever trip to DC at about 9am today. I fished at the point to the west of the 'island'.
In all my years I have only fallen on the ice once and it was years and years ago. The wind was howling when I got there and a scant 50 yards from shore I took my first spill of the day. I now have huge lumps of swelling on my right elbow and my left knee and on the back of my head as well. But I got up and kept going.
Another 50 yards and I got to where I thought I wanted to be. Set my gear down and then the wind set me down. In the process I kicked my Home Depot bucket and the wind promptly took it across the lake at mach 3 with a few rat finkees, my proclamation, and a brand new pair of gortex gloves inside it. Consider it a late Christmas present to whoever found it....
I finally got set up with my finkee and a meal worm below a swedish pimple and the fish gods must have decided they owed me one. I had a fish on each of my first four 'casts'. They were all rainbows and all about 14". As my proclamation was across the lake and it was my first time I was unsure if the regs and released all four of them.
After an hour more with no bites I headed back towards shore to see if I could find some perch. One hour, one fall, and zero fish later it was time for me to pack up and head for work.
I climbed back up the hill and found that my driver door was stuck shut. I later found that the linkage inside the door had busted and so it's really stuck. No opening from inside or outside.
All in all I was happy to be putting some trout on the ice but I'm a lot worse for wear.
