Lets start with the UGLY: First off at 6:30 a.m. I sent my boy off to take a look at the trail going down from the check-in and he was on my buddies 800 polaris 4 wheeler and he got a little to close to the bad, ice close to the shore. Or should i say no ice. So we worked for the next hour and a half digging, wenching, pulling, standing in the water, and giving each other an earful. Thanks to maddog and the extra chain we were able to reach a fence post and get wenched out. We loaded back up at 15 after 8 and went to the boat ramp. Parked and got out on the boat ramp. Then we dealt with the BAD: About 30-40 mile an hour snow blowing miserable wind gusts. The chill factor was low not sure how low but it was low. Got the new 6 man tent up better known as Glen's Hilton. The fish were very inactive. But my 17 year old son managed to catch a 19 incher the second hour which leads us to the GOOD: It was a 3 way tie for the big fish of the hour ( we each won $66) and then it ended up the 3, 19inchers took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place overall. So we got to split $2250.00 and his fish being the 3rd 19 incher received the 4th place trophy. Last but not least Maniac custom lures paid him $100 for catching the fish on a Maniac gizzy bug. ( crazy glo!!! hint, hint) Thanks James and all the guys that hosted the Derby. DaBomb says we WILL be back.

I kind of laughed to myself when I drove by there this morning and counted over 40 ice huts. For such a small reservoir there seemed to be quite a few people out there. Congratulations on the good part of the story, and more power to you for weathering the storm of bad and ugly.

[Smile] The wind really sucked. I brought the condo tent for me and the two kids. Neighbors for the day helped me set it up in exchange for use of the power auger. DEAL !!!The edges were dicey. After getting set up, we put down a two by twelve plank that I was unable to retrieve because it was submerged by the afternoon. Even beyond the plank I put one leg through the ice almost to the hip. We did catch several fish. Had two measured and brought home three Kokanee which were delicious for lunch today. A fun derby as always !!!

The wind was pretty frustrating but after the first hour or so it wasn't too bad. The fishing was slow for me as well. I marked quite a few fish on the vexilar but really struggled to get them to hit. Tried a lot of stuff and managed 5 fish all day. Three 12-14 inch rainbows and two 15-16 inch kokes which were a pleasant surprise. I think they should have a biggest koke award! It was still a fun time and just good to get out even with the wind.

You hit the nail on the head with the subject of good-bad-ugly bit !!! The winds were a royal pain in the a$$ to say the least !! This derby was 1 of the most well put together events Ive ever fished well worth the $60.00 in my opinoin !! The fellas from BIGDOGG fishing are a good group of guys and I am excited for next yrs event ..Id like to see a category for kokes and bass !!! I managed to catch over 35 fish for the day .. Took home a limit of kokes up to 17inches bagged my last 1 as the signal flare shot and didnt even know I coulda used the kokes in the derby till later oh well also caught a largie that was 15ins 3lbs 2oz.. But the real highlight was the UTAH boys representin!!! My pal JIM BYRNE took 1st and $1700 bones home to UTAH !!!

Hey Euge136 that was me and my parents that helped you set up your tent in that blistering wind. It was a fun derby i only wish my parents would have caught some fish. I ended up with 9 4 trout and 5 kokes. I hope it didnt scare my parents off from going with me next year.

[Wink] Well if they can handle a day like that, and still have interest, there should be many good times ahead.
