Arrived 22 Jan at approx 0730 temp was 34* departure temp was dropping due to the nasty wind that blew all day and was 28* and falling.... [cool]

The ice has approximately 2-3" of new snow. Wore ice cleats as the snow ontop of pure ice was slick as slick could be...even with ice cleats slipped several times but didn't hit the deck. [Smile]

Clear solid ice thickness is 7" with maybe 2" of snowcone ice...some areas no snowcone ice just clear solid ice. Shorelines show signs of the past weeks rain and warmer temp as the reservoir has risen with previous rain and snowmelt runoff.

The shorelines have ice ridges pushed up from the rising water. Edges look soft but plenty of areas to get onto the ice and with the cooler temps predicted will freeze up solid...Now fish'n the Narrows I'd be very careful as the edges looked soft on our drive back home...with the Narrows 3-5' from shore you could be in 15-25' of water easily because this area is very steep. So BE CAREFUL if you fish the Narrows until this areas shorelines freezes back up...probably is safe based on reports I've just read...but still BE CAREFUL. [Image: bobwink.gif]

I attached a pic of Browning point shoreline slushy 3-4' out from the reservoir rising from this past week...plenty safe on the main body and NO SLUSH once on the main ice cap... [Wink]

Snowmobiles and a large side-by-side ATV with 2 guys and 2 young boys riding in the back on the ice. So now I'm finally get'n sled ice confidence. Think'n next weekend maybe the frist chariot ride...[Smile]

Fish'n was slower...still managed lots of dinks both Perch and Crappie...and the weather wasn't pleasant...wind, snow and pea size sleet. We sat in the tent for a good while. Fish'n partner gets a hit and we're think'n its a jumbo Perch...ends up being a SMB...right on the bottom in about 40' of water... [Image: icon_smile.gif]

Eventually the Sun decided to show and we moved outside...I moved to this one hole I'd punched and hadn't yet used...started picking up dink perch and Crappie...I get a hit and start reeling the fish top-side and about 10' from the top...all of a sudden this dinkster fish got 'real' heavy and just that fast my reels drags starts zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing as line is peeling off [shocked]. Than Just that fast the line goes slack and I reel in to find a 4" Crappie with a nice bleeding gash/puncture on its tail...so what 'mystery' fish could that have been....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I just wonder.... [Image: icon_whistle.gif]

Even though we didn't find the larger fish in a different area...had fun and brought fish home.

Lures used are exactly the same...Ants, Swedish Pimples and Shrimpos...didn't find slabo crappies only managed one larger one the keepers were 6-7"...lots of lookers and sniffers...using the same technique I've described in previous posts fish would rush up...sniff hang out and slowly drop back down.

Again for us jigging produced...dead sticking didn't...proved this as fish'n partner while sitting in the tent dead sticked while I jigged...I was catch'n and she was watch'n...said I was like a machine...

Pic attached of yesterdays take we kept...probably caught close to 100 fish...yep dink perch and smaller Crappie...Slabos didn't want to visit today...there's always 'next weekend' Friday and Saturday....[Image: bobwink.gif][Image: bobwink.gif]

Talked to Smokeonthewater Friday and he said the water was pretty dirty off Browning point do to some drilling or whatever going on, was that where you fished or a different area? Trying to talk him and Fishnut in to joining up next Sat. for the Perch Fest, should be interesting.[fishin]

Yep also talked with Smoke and he told me the same thing. We did see the large drilling type rig in the Browning Point Pumphouse area and they were working. The water color where we were was a cloudy/ brownish stained color...we could see our lures go down the ice hole maybe 3-4' then vanish in the murky water. Closer to the Browning Point south shorelines ice holes had water that looked dirty compared to where we fished...think'n the underwater current and flow will move the water towards the dam...but who knows. The water for sure wasn't clear like it was on the past trips. Didn't see any direct water runoff into the reservoir though even when we drove around headed home...no water seen coming onto the ice including the snow showed no signs of anytype of dirty water runoff...at least that we could see from a vehicle heading home.

Still caught fish where we were though...no slabo Crappies this time...still fun and we weren't sitting at home or at 'W-O-R-K'....[Smile][Smile]

Another nice report Kim, thanks for sharing. Compared to the perch and other crappie your largest crappie looks hung, how big was it?

awesome report, i am sure it helps everyone ,good on ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what is dead sticking?A dead minnow on a nuclear ant or what?I hope to learn this technique.

WH2...didn't measure the largest Crappie maybe 10" I guess.

4eyes, the same catch and pic. you posted last year for Willard, those perch get around!
[signature]
Good catch wyoguy. They are indeed the fish posted as willard perch last year. Hmmm Who knows maybe they swam upstream jumped the damn and headed for browning point. That was of course after escaping the cutting board they were on. Moderators Is it ok to post pics and claim they were caught somewhere else? I have a fantastic picture of a halibut I caught in Lake Powell in 19.... ummm well anyway.

Guess I just don't understand what 4eyes problem is...I also questioned where those fish came from but didn't know for sure. So thanks for let'n me know 'IN-FACT' not from Pineview...again what is 4eyes problem...[:/][:/]
