Lake Coeur d'Alene is producing limits of nice-sized chinook salmon for most of those venturing out. The fish are being caught at 90-100 feet trolling either helmeted herring or a mini-squid trolled behind a standard flasher. The fish are running bigger this year. I am hoping to get up there before the summer doldrums hit. Mike

Kodiak thanks for info.. From what I found the Chinook in CDA will humble the best of fisherman. It's one of those 5% of the fisherman catch 98% of the fish things. From what I've found technique is not as important as finding the darn things. Good electronics is a must as is a lot of gas. The spring salmon derby in mid April is a great chance to pick up some tips from that 5%. If you can find them it's a hoot!!!

Is there still a consumption warning on eating them?
Leaving the docks, second cove on the right is a good place to start. [Image: bobwink.gif]

Here is a utube provided by Black Sheep showing the correct manner to fish helmeted herring. It is worth a look. We fished this set-up last time we were there, and it produced. Black Sheep and Fins and Fish both sell herring. Mike
