I am not into ice fishing, so winter is kind of depressing for me. Saturday was fairly nice weather, so I went out looking for some soft water and ended up at Salem pond. I fished for a couple hours, and ended up catching 2 albino trout. I caught a few albinos at mirror lake last summer as well. Does anyone know why they are planting albino trout in these small ponds? I guess it is an interesting looking fish, but I would much rather catch a rainbow. Is there any other reason to plant these fish besides creating "variety"?

I think the main reason they stock them is because they are unique and different. In the small community ponds they are also highly visible so it creates a little excitement, especially for younger anglers, because they can see the fish more easily.

I think it is because kids can see them swimming even if they don't catch them. It makes it interesting, as all the kids I know want to catch the "gold" one! -- something different or special in their catch.

It's to make them more visible so the birds[crazy] have an easier time catching them. I guess that's an unintended consequence. It's just for the novelty like others have mentioned.
