I have a underwater camera with lights on it. I was wondering if that would attract fish. Has anyone had any luck with a camera night fishing? Thinking about trying it this weekend.

I've been out before dawn with a camera. The light definitely helps for making the camera work when dark or deep. In general - the fish seem curious about it. Funny to see them come up and stare right into it. Had a bass get kinda aggressive with it at Mantua once. Been bumped by perch-a-plenty.

Don't know if the light draws them in more. I've wondered if it might help my lure flash or glow. I got some of these slick tungsten jigs that have a little "jewel" in the head. They're deadly! A little glow - a little flash. Seen the crystal sparkle from the camera light.

I have found that after light - depending on conditions, but I've usually shut off the light, or at least trimmed it down. When there's lots of turbulence and particulates - seems to tend to obscure the line of sight to the bouncing jig. Been tough to dial it in sometimes.

One of the keys of having a camera is you CAN see how the fish respond - to your jigging motion, or deadsticking. I like catching a bite that doesn't even twitch a spring bobber. Even if I haven't found my jig, I get an idea when fish are cruising through.

Just need to build a stand for it now!
I've never seen them jigs before. I'll have to give them a try. Thanks for the help. I'm going to give it a try this weekend.
I've used mine at night. It doesn't have lights, just IR. Does anyone know if fish can see IR? Anyway, I don't know if it attracts the fish, but they seem interested in it. Will swim by and bump it to check it out. One things for sure, it certainly doesn't seem to spook them, especially once it's been down there not moving for awhile. I've used it in the middle of the night when fish were really picky. Helped me to narrow down presentation and bait to what they would hit and to know when to set the hook when they were just barely touching it. My guess is that lights couldn't hurt for trout and would probably definitely work well for crappie and maybe even get a perch or two to bite at night. Used to use spotlights for catfish and bass at night down south growing up. Worked well for them.
