We arrived at 09:30 Am and were almost set up on the lake . We had all 10 rods set out and just getting ready for a great day on the ice , when my friend starts getting a real good bite on the rod farthest away and makes a mad dash to set the hook . There is a thin layer of snow on the ice and it is very slick . He tried to stop and his feet slip out and down he goes on his elbow and snaps his arm between the elbow and shoulder . Just want to say thanks to the great Fire department and Ambulance service from Preston and the great staff at there hospital that stabilized him . At seven tonight he was headed into surgery at Bingham Memorial to repair the break . Normally we fish alone because we have different days off but he took vacation to go with me . Be careful out there . Curt G.

That really sucks. Hope your friend is feeling better soon.

Hopefully it wasn't the arm he holds the rod with!

It was his left hand and he is left handed . He was thinking positive when I left the hospital . He was talking about having some kind of a rod holder formed into the cast . Curt G.

Bum deal [:/]. It's easy to do something seemingly innocent that can turn into something like this. Stay safe and be careful out there. After all, if everyone stopped and slowed down to consider what may cause an injury trauma centers would go out of business. The psychiatrists would probly love it though because we'd all go crazy with all the risks out there! Hope your buddy feels better soon.

I will be praying for him. Yes it is a reminderof why it is better to go and do things with someone.

Gone4wheelin we will have to get together soon . I think we would have had a good day if he would not got hurt . The Vex was showing a lot of fish and when I was putting away the rods and equipment to head to the hospital , half of them had lost there bait to fish . Curt G

My buddy is a good Christian and a member of our forum , I'm sure he will greatly appreciate our Prayers for a quick recovery . Lets all be safe out there . Before I go out next time I will have a lot better pair of ice cleats . We were wearing the HT ones from Sportsmans Warehouse and have had good luck with them until now . They have good grip under the ball of your foot but not so much for your heels . So you can take off real fast but when you dig your heels in to stop they did not help at all . Curt G.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I've taken a few falls on the ice and they can be very painful. Luckily I've never been hurt seriously. Again, sorry about your friend and I wish him a quick recovery.

Man that is a bummer. I've seen a lot of people slip and fall but never get injured that badly. He must have landed just right. If he needs a good therapist for his rehab I have a bunch of colleagues in that area that would be glad to help him.

I've tried several types of ice cleats and have found that yaktrax are by far the best. They cost a little more than the cheap ones but they really work well.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

Hey man, I am really sorry to hear about your injury and I sincerely wish you all the best in your healing process. I blew out my knee a few years ago on the ice; no not the same thing, but I surely can relate to your misfortune.

God Speed,
