So, I've been taking the family ice fishing at the nature park lately. Had a ton of fun and success at catching the planted Rainbows out of there, kids caught a bunch too. But, I hear there are perch in there. Is that true? If so, what is the secret to catching them there? Are there other species and techniques?

There's perch in there, but forget them, you gotta go after the illusive GOLDEN CARP!! [laugh][laugh][laugh]

my kids have more fun with the goldfish as well and they are easy to catch. I found that using the smallest hook possible seemed to produce more perch.

Are you guys using worms on the bottom? Specific places where the perch are hiding out? Any special setup. I don't mind catching the rainbows, but I'd love to even see something different. I appreciate your help.

just using tiny pieces of worm, maybe 1/4 of a worm at a time. all of the perch we caught were really small.

Where is the best place to fish on the nature ponds? I fish there every once in a while in the warmer months just to boost my confidence, so maybe that would be a great place to start ice fishing.
And have you been out there lately, is the ice safe?

With this cold the ice is great. I've had success on the Northwest pond, you'll see a bunch of holes frozen over where people fish often. And on the pond just South I've caught fish there too. I haven't fished that nearly as much. I'll send you a PM. I'm thinking I want to go out tomorrow.

Saturday was an awesome day of Fishing!
Made it out to the ponds about 8 am and IceHoleFisher was already there pulling in fish left and right (literally he was pulling them in with a rod in each hand!) We spent all morning pulling in rainbows out of the holes. The fishing was fast and furious and we could barely get the lines back in the water before we had another strike. Between IceHoleFisher, myself and my buddy we easily caught over 100 fish before noon.
We all ended up with our limit of trout, and myself and my buddy did not take anything home that was under 12"
I am thinking about going back out there often and then trying my luck on Ririe!

That was a ton of fun wasn't it? You'll have to let me know when you're thinking of going again.
