I am finally getting out to go nymphing this weekend after months of doing nothing but working. i was thinking about going to a couple of places that I can access on the SF because it is close but was wondering if I should look towards the Henry's instead? Just planning on using the usual copper john's and pheasant tails. Open to any other suggestions. thanks

Can't advise on place as I would think they are sixes right now. I would also pack my favorite...Haresear in several sizes and maybe some shammy or San Juan worms specially after rain.

If you can get access to the Fall River between St. Anthoney and Ashton it is open now for catch and release only. It was always one of my favorite places to fish in the winter with a high stick n nymph. The section between the low bridge on the Flag Ranch road and the old Fall River Store was always good. You can wade in at the bridge and walk the bank if the snows to deep. Some really big rainbows and lots of whitefish in that section.

Personally I'd head to the South Fork right now. In my own experience, the Henry's gets a lot better in a few weeks. Right now the slush ice flows are common. The fall and the Henry's near Ashton both have huge deep shelf ice right now that last year cleared up by the second week of February. They also just bumped the flows on the South Fork, which last year was a big help for trout to whitefish ratio and this will keep the water temperature higher for a longer distance downstream from the dam.

you guys are great! thanks a lot for your help and suggestions. I have never really fished fall river. not sure if i should wait until better weather before going there or is it easy to access?

It is easy to access at several bridges during most of the year. The last two times I've driven over it (last two weeks) though there has been about 5 feet of ice on top of it with a little sliver of water visible in some areas. Last year I went there in the middle of February with my wife and went to the wrong bridge. We scaled 12 feet of ice in places to get to the water and had a difficult time getting in and out. However, there were other places that were easier to access once I looked around a bit. But, like I said, I would wait a few weeks for some warmer average temps especially during the night. The ice roof should clear out then.
