does anyone know how the ice is and how the fishing is on Palie.

I fished it last monday and it was pretty good except for all the slush. We fished at big elk and had our limit of kokanee within about an hour. Take a board to bridge the 3 to 4 foot gap to get from the shore to the ice or you'll have to wade through slushy water up to you'r knees. A pair of good insulated neoprene waders would work to and they would keep your feet dry once you get on the ice. Good luck.

Just barely got back from palies today and it is frozen on the edges. dont worry about the planks unless it warms again soon. Caught about 10 fish, 8 cutts and 2 browns. good day at big elk.

We were up to palies today as well between 4 of us cought 28 in about 2 1/2 hours. paddle bugs were the trick to getting the bites great day but we had to watch the edges a little not to bad though. Going up again in the morning hopefully turnes out the same way.

Just be carefull your first couple of steps onto the ice.
No there is not much sluch on the ice quite enjoyable. If you don't like german browns, make sure you turn them loose.
Cause there is plenty of cuthrouts after you get the brown away fronm your hook. Fishing is the best i have seen up there in years.

Nope we weren't fishing at big elk creek all our fish were cutthroats except for a couple which were german browns. But i did catch my first whitefish through the ice

well it is about 8 inches three solid inches then an inch of slush then another 4 of solid where off the face of the dam so should be good but your call

Been fishing palies the last two weekends and between our group have kept 84 fish most good sized around 18 inches. Have released another 30 or so.

So you had 7 guys keeping a 6 fish limit for 2 weekends ??? I hope you like to eat fish !!

Jacksonlaker, you and I are friends but disparaging someone, who is also a friend of mine, for a legal take of what would be cull size fish isn't good. There has to be roughly 750,000 fish of take size in that lake if you figure it has only 75% of the fish Henry's Lake is claiming to have. Given the body of water probably quadruple in size I would have to doubt that Henry's has more fish than Palies. With those numbers, it's likely he isn't denting the population in any way. It's not like he's at Jackson Lake slaying trophy 40 year old macs with abandon.

Well there was 4 people up there for three days and then me and my son up there one day is how we came up with the 84 kept. And not a single fish went to waste. And that was fishing just one cove so there should still be plenty of areas with fish i would assume[]

It is a big lake, and it has lots of natural reproduction, I don't think you made even a dimple in the population.

MMDon, I didn't take jacksonlakers comment as a bash. I see it as a honest calm question....that is allot of fish is all. I like fish, but I couldn't eat I for two weeks[]

Questions on the internet can be easily taken the wrong way. If he is truly interested in the eating styles of the person who offered the fishing report, he knows he has my apology.

My feeling is rhetorical questions about waters that aren't affected by fishing pressure simply may lead to people not making fishing reports. That is usually the death knell to some great boards. I really enjoy this board and the friendly and talented people who graciously contribute here. I'd hate to see posts dry up for fear of being labeled as this or that.

You know, you are absolutely right. But we must not wear our feelings on our shirt sleeves either.

I'd like to extend an invitation to those that no longer post because they got offended by someone to come back and join in again. Those who attack aren't worth the loss the rest of us experience due to your absense.
