[:p] Had a great time at Johnson today. Got there at about 4:00 and fished till dark. I only had four poles set up and couldn't keep up, but I really wasn't catching anything, just getting the bait stripped. I couldn't figure it out for quite a while, then I put a small pink jig with a treble hook and mealworm on and started fishing with one pole. Before long I caught two 3" long crappie and a 4" long perch. I had my Marcum Showdown and when I would put the jig down it looked like it would be surrounded by fish. Oh well maybe they will be bigger next year!

Last time I was at Johnson, which was in the summer, I caught a bazillion 4" bluegills. I didn't even know there was anything else in there like perch or crappie. Every time I would cast the gills would be all over it no matter what size it was. Would be a great place to take little kids!

Looks like the crappie are really showing up all over the area. So that's Twin, Glendale, Lamont, Johnson, and Condie now that I've seen or heard of them coming out of. That works for me. Having grown up in the northeast where there are a lot of different species, I really enjoy the surprise of not knowing what I might bring in next.

Sorry, I meant to say Bluegill, not Crappie.[shocked]
If this picture works, notice my size 10 boot print it is laying in.

Oh okay, there are definitely plenty of those in there. I've caught quite a few largemouth there too, but nothing over 12". Still, with how they're showing up everywhere, I wouldn't be surprised to find crappie there as well.

wow 3" crappie. takes guts to post that. sounds like you had fun though !

Bluegill makes more sense, although I too was thinking that crappie were spreading rapidly lately. [laugh]

I know that lots of people have mentioned the tigers in there and the trout and bass, but wow how do you ever get past the little bluegill? This is one reservoir that they really need to increase the number of tiger muskie in!

The lake could definently use more tiger muskies. The bluegill are so small they aren't worth keeping so you can't harvest enough to keep the population check. The perch are actually doing pretty good size wise, which us why I fish there, but its nearly impossible to get your hook past the billion 3" bluegill.
