Just moved down to Vegas a few weeks ago from Northern Utah (Air Force). So other than Mead where does everyone like to fish? Does anyone venture into California, Utah (Sand Hollow/Quail Creek I have fished before) Arizona? Anyhow, glad to be here and hope to post some reports SOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!

Besides Lake Mead, the major spots in close proximity are Lake Mojave including Willow Beach just below Hoover Dam and Lake Havasu. Those are the closest large bodies of water. I know Cali has castaic, the delta and a ton of other hot bass spots. Im sure others will chime in with some other spots. Welcome to Vegas.

Welcome TS!

Man, there are a slew of fishing spots that are within a few hours of Las Vegas.

To the North (about 4 hours), we have spots like Cave Lake. Good trout fishing, and tons of crayfish. (you may be better off making the drive back to Utah for trout)

Mead offers enough to keep you busy for a while, but you can go an hour south to Lake Mohave, where you can fish the upper end like a river for rainbow trout and monster stripers, or the lower end for more warm-water fish like largemouth, smallmouth, channel cats, bluegill and carp.

Even further south is Lake Havasu. A little over 2.5 hours from here, and well worth the drive, Havasu offers some spectacular bass fishing, redear sunfish can top 3 lbs, flathead catfish going to 30+ lbs, and the striper fishing is good apparently, but I've never tried.

Within five hours of here, we have the bounty of So Cal, and some salty fishing. They also have quite a few freshwater lakes not too far from here.

Hit one, and let us know how it goes!

Thanks Wiz. I will post reports and pictures on every trip I take and hope to see some other BFT'ers out and about.

Up north about 3-4 hours away you also have Eagle valley Res, Echo Res, and the Wayne Kirch wildlife area made up of several fishable waters. At Wayne Kirch you have some decent trout and good bass fishing. These are all frozen over until spring.

If you dont want to travel far and and still hit some trout try Boulder city pond or Sunset Park. Stocked weekly, not the largest fish (10"-12") but its fishing. We tend to catch and release upwards of 20 trout at the boulder pond any given trip.....except for this last Sat...it was dead!

The guy at bass pro fly shop uses an 8wt and a huge trout fly and catches pig stripers in willow beach from his float tube. Says he hooked into a 35lber that pulled him a mile down stream.[laugh]
