Don't you just love Hyrum this year, it actually makes me feel like I can catch a fish again... Dropped in at 4:15 this afternoon on the way home from work, had six fish by 5:00 two others broke off, I couldn't hold them and I missed four or five other bites... Took four nice bows home to eat, they aren't the monsters some are catching, but 13 to 14 incher's so they make a great meal... This is the kind of fishing that hooked me as a kid... If you want to get your kids into it, it is a great time to take them out, grab one of the regulars and they will give you some pointers if you haven't done it before... Take some wax worms or shrimp to tip your small jig and drop your line down about 8 feet and have fun...

Had hoped to duck out after work this evening as you did. Mother-cards had other plans. Glad to know they are hitting toward dusk. Fun tugs!
Find any perch - or all trout on the line?

Were you up by the inlet this time, or over by the south-west end? Can't do Sat morn, but I might have an out for the afternoon. Still thinkin on heading to Newton - maybe fish from dusk to dark. Hope the edges are sound!

Even amongst them planters there are some chunky monkys even with the 1+ footers. Noticed some are PHAT others, probably newer, younger. We've had a few nice ones hooked up, even right to the hole. So don't be surprised if you find a 20+ incher knocking at your door!

Glad to hear you got some good tugs at that time of day. I think early afternoon may be a down time, but late afternoon - it seems - they must pick up the bite at dusk. They always did under wet water. But when the sun goes down, the bit goes off. What I've seen.
Crappie may present a different story (I hope).
Hey sorry I didn't get back sooner, off skiing yesterday and came home and crashed early last night.. I did have a few perch biting, but I am terrible at hooking those guys so they just drove me nuts... So it was all trout on the ice this trip... I wish the perch were a little larger and I'd get serious about them and figure out how to catch them, but they are so small I don't have the patients to clean up a batch, so I've been liking the trout this year.

I usually fish on the inlet end, but I don't go up where the big crowds are, I have found that about 250 yards off the bank and a little south of where the trail come down to the ice has worked best for me... I'm usually in about 16 feet of water, but only fish down about 8 feet at most... I have found that location does matter and if I'm not catching them if I move, I have done a lot better. But I have also had a fish finder going and when I don't see any fish at all in a half hour, I know there must be a better spot... But I have also been in a spot and caught fish and never seen any on the graph so I don't always swear by what shows up on the chart.

Let me know how Newton turns out, I haven't really fished Newton much since the glory days when the trout fishing was sooo good out there. Right after I got home from my mission in the early 80's that lake rocked big time, I used to love to troll over there... I like the pure power of a good stike when your trolling, but I don't seem to be able to get out much that time of year any more, maybe this year, got fall wheat in the ground and not in the Bishopric any more so maybe I'll have some time... Good luck...
