Looked outside and it looked cold and overcast and figured it would be a great day for crappie. I was right. I caught a 13 incher on my first cast. Some of the bites were pretty aggressive but many of them, especially the bigger ones were very subtle with just the line being just a little more slack than it should have been with the amount of breeze that was present. Calm days are so much easier to see the strikes because you don't have to factor in the wind bowing the line. I ended up with a great sack of fish. The limit barely fit into my "live well" which is a 5 gallon bucket that hangs from my dock. I had two over 14 inches one of which weighed a pound and 10oz, three more over 13 inches. I caught a total of 20 fishing from 3 until 4:30 with only one non keeper. No other species were caught. The water temp was right around 39 degrees as I decided to check it this time out. Most fish were caught at a 4 to 5 count on 1/32 oz jigs with a PA in my favorite color. I used to post my favorite color all the time but it got to where I couldn't buy them any more, always sold out of that color. Here are a couple of pics of some of the bigger fish. What a great way to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon! We are blessed with a great fishery.
