Hello guys,
I took my son out today. I went back to Las Vegas wash and netted about 20 shad then back up to the 33 hole. We got several bites, but with the intricacies of teaching a 7 year old how to fish, we never hooked anything. After several hours and most of the shad being used, I decided to spend a couple hours trolling. I was hoping that I'd have a better chance of the fish hooking itself. We were almost back to the truck when we got lucky on a nice fat little striper. The
on my son's face was absolutely priceless as he reeled it in. It truly made our day. It was getting late and I wanted to get off the water well before dark so we packed it in. Another beautiful day on the water and I was so glad that the one fish landed made my son's day [fishin].
A couple of things to note. I pulled up into the shallow really stained water of las vegas wash.. almost cast the net to shore and in 10 or so casts I had my bait.
I parked the boat in 41ft of water not far from the 33 hole parking lot. Several bites, no fish hooked. It is pretty hard to get the concept of setting a hook to a 7 year old. We got just 'nough bites to keep my son just this side of getting bored. Not what you'd call a good bite though.
I either got really lucky twice, or my shad netting problems are over.
I brought a bit of salt for the water today. I just dropped like a tablespoon in the water. I also used an aerator and the shad were fine. I also did a water change with a smaller bucket every so often.
The one fish was landed on a storm shad swim bait. Largest one the store had.
Later guys,
Mark
ps Here is a pic of my son and his fish. I purposely put the boat in the background so you guys could see my luxery fishing yacht.
