Unfortunately it looks like this coming Monday will be the last of fishing for me for at least 6 months if not for the year (heading to the sandbox). If you had a choice of where to go and what to fish what would it be?

I'm located in Mountain Home, but am willing to drive a few hours. I have a bass boat and gear for everything from sturgeon, bass, catfish, small perch, trout, and salmon - no fly rod though. So far I've been skunked in Idaho since moving here in November and I'd like to end that.

im over here now missing the great winter fishing on a few of the smaller feeder creeks in UT. have fun!

Chris, you be careful over there and come back in one piece.
I grew up in Glenn's Ferry, but my fishing was the Snake River in my back yard. Sturgeon there as well.
Sadly I am not familiar with much of the stillwaters in that parts anymore, so I look forward to the answers myself, as I do have family still in Boise.

Timing sucks Chris, and so does the weather forecast. My only suggestion would be to go after one of those Sturgeon below the dam at C.J. Good Luck and be careful!

I am sorry you have to go, but I thank you at the same time. As for where to go, I wish I could help you. I aint lyin's idea seems like a good one to me.

I would put you on a killer Catfish trip but if you have only days left it will be way too early. Look me up when you get back thanks for your service. Ron

Wish I could help, but I am on the wrong side of the state.

Are places like Brownlee and Oxbow half iced?? Does anyone fish them in the winter? How about the hump at CJ, does it produce anything this time of year?

Thanks for serving.

God Bless and keep you safe!

Hey Chris if you're in Mountain Home, go to CJ Strike and you can try trolling some rapalas/minnows/spinners around the points and stuff there on the reservoir, you should be able to get in to some nice trout. Also you can run up the snake arm a little ways and could probably get in to some sturgeon too. Look for them on your fish finder in any of the deeper holes. This is of course all weather (wind) permitting. Thats where I would go.

Man, go find some open water and stick that boat in. I hope the weather cooperates for you.
Some guys are talking about Greys Landing at Salmon Falls is open but I couldn't tell you. That's about 3 hours south of you. Not sure what you are into but you are right at the stateline from there and a quick hop over to Cactus Petes for a good meal and a bit of entertainment to go along with the outing. An easy drive to get to for sure. Lots of different kinds of fish there. State record walleye came from there. Maybe someone will post or you could ask Sportsmans Warehouse in Twin. Probaby should ask about the roads into the lake from the hiway too.
The posts are in a thread below this named Salmon Dam. Maybe those Sturgeon are the way to go. Wish I had better advice or ideas on a good place to spend the day.
Remember and know that your service is appreciated.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I'm leaning towards going after the dinos but am also interested in kokanee.

Does anyone have experience with kokes at Anderson Ranch this time of year?

Hey Chris,
I'm sending you a PM. Mike

I am so glad you got into some nice fish. Kuddos to Kodiak1 for helping out with his expertise.

That is a huge sucker in the first part of your video! Nice fish all around. Congratulations.

Be safe and hurry back. Thanks for serving. God Bless!

I would go to CJ Strike Reservoir further west on the Snake River. Full of crappie, yellow perch, bass (smallmouth and largemouth), rainbow trout, channel catfish, suckers, bluegill sunfish, carp and white sturgeon.
Sturgeon are protected by law and need to know the regs on that fish if you hook one-can't remove it from the water and must release without being harmed. Goodluck fishing and thanks for protecting our country- I salute you!!!

The first fish in the video is a sucker fish. Idaho has two or three different species of that fish. Thanks for serving our nation and thanks for the video-it was fun watching it.

Wow! Catching a monster sturgeon on a dinky bass rig like that----now that's an accomplishment! Could you ask for a better day right before deployment? And, big trout, perch and crappie just to top it off. Beautiful picture, by the way, of the blue skies and clouds reflecting off the water. Keep safe, and maybe we can go kokanee or trout fishing when you return. Glad my "technique" worked for you. Mike

I am really glad you were able to get your boat on the water and catch a variety of fish, especially the sturgeon.
Cool video. Thanks for posting it. Good luck.

Nice fish!
You were the only rig on the airforce side when I put in that morning.
I had the pontoon dragging 5 lines in the main pool.[Smile]
What a great day!
Take care.
