Just wondering if anyone has fished Carey Lake through the ice or knows anyone who has recently? I was considering trying it on Monday. Any info would be greatly appreciated, and as always a PM will work just fine. Thanks in advance.

I fished it twice this year. First time I found perch right by the ramp and landed 3 the next time I had only a an occasional sighting of perch and were down by the warm water inlet and never caugh a one. this was prabably 2 months ago. Ice was about 8" then.

What else is in carey lake? I've heard rumors of crappy but don't know if there's any truth to it.

That is a good question. LMB, perch and bluegill are all I have caught. But that does not mean there isnt more!

They planted catfish, but I don't think they have made it there.

] Carey Lake has largemouth bass, bluegill, pumpkin seed sunfish, yellow perch and bullhead catfish. Crappie is doubtful for biological reasons (prefer bodies of water of 500 acres or more). Idaho Dept. Fish and Game has planted channel catfish on several occasions but don't appear to have taken hold.

Just wondering if you ever made it out there? If I understand correctly Carey Lake is not too far from Rexburg and I was interested in trying it through the ice before it melts. You can PM if its super secret! Thanks

I've tried for catfish several times, never a bite. I also tossed in some crawdad traps several places while fishing, came back to find them full of little perch. LMB, perch, various sunfish is all we've found there.

I never made it out on Monday but still have the intention of fishing it. BTW Carey is out past Arco toward Sun Valley or Shoshone, approximately 110 miles from Idaho Falls. Ice was good where I checked it out from the boat ramp. Good luck if you go!

I didnt realize it was that far away. Maybe not worth a trip unless its for a weekend. Let us know if you make it and how it fishes.
