My round little buddy called me to see if I was bored enough to go out and test his boat/try for fish this afternoon. I was so bored that I said YES! His pontoon boat trailers like a dream. We headed down the lake at full throttle and got a really stupid reading on the tach, so I turned it over and changed the switch. The tach is temporarily hooked up and is, well, to be honest it is hand held right now! Kind of a different concept, but not totally unexpected if you know Spur. We could only get about 3500 rpm at full throttle, so the 16" prop is going to have to drop waaaaay down, maybe to a 12" pitch. The boat gets right up and runs well, but we've got to get that wot rpm up where it belongs. (A thought - Erik, double check the cables and make sure that the throttles are opening completely.) This is turning into a very nice rig.

We wandered about a bit and tried for the perch, bluegill, and spotted bass that have been around recently. We caught a few of each, with both Catfinger and Spur embarrassing me on the catch ratio and sizes. I know I contributed one nice bluegill to the dinner frying pan, but had the big fish of the day pull off of my 4 pound test and #4 hook because I couldn't *SET* the hook with my rig. I suspect it was a really nice bass, but it could also have been a catfish. I still would have liked to see it. It was taking drag regularly before it came off.

Erik caught his first "real" yellow perch (he had caught a teeny-tiny one once). It wasn't a TARP, but it was definitely respectable, maybe 9 inches. We caught most of the fish quickly, then the fishig simply died.

I think the yellow perch bite is pretty much over for this year. I think we caught maybe 4 small ones today. There are some really terrific ones in the lake, but there are a bunch of other nice species to enjoy there too. I'll be making an occasional trip there in the future now that I've been reintroduced to it.

Erik can add pics if he'd like - nothing huge to show off, just some friends and family having fun!
