Certain fishing tricks can make a world of a difference in fishing success. Here are two that have really helped me score on catching fish.
#1. When bank fishing I like to prop my rod up thru a "Y" shaped stick poked into the ground-nothing new ok, but then I like to hang by the treble hook a spinner hanging down on the line where it unspools from the reel and before the line goes thru the first eyelet on the rod. This puts a v-shape in the line, tighten your line until the spinner dangles from the line. When I get the slightest pick up or nibble of a fish the line tightens and the attached spinner signals the activity and warns me far in advance of the tip of my rod bending indicating a bite. On occasion I have used a red painted very small clothes pin from a Craft store. When I'm desperate I have used a bobber but this can be difficult to detach especially in the excitement of "fish-on"! I use this method for trout and catfish. Up your fun and success rate and excitement. Kind of like flags on ice tip-ups popping up.
#2. This past summer I was float tubing on Carey Lake, Idaho and catching some 8" yellow perch now and then. At one point I noticed thru the clean water two or three perch quickly swim up to my tube and worm rig but not bite. For fun I started moving in circles in my float tube. As the tube moved in circles and consequently my jig, it excited the perch and they started zipping in and attacking my bait. It was a little funny watching perch following in a large circle but more fun watching them grab the bait and "perch on"! It worked great. Caught a lot of fish, over 50 that day.
Now someone is going to be tempted to ask wouldn't it just be easier with less energy expended if I just stayed still in the water and cast the jig and worm and reeled it in? Yes, I tried it for hours but then the circular motion worked by far better. Why does trolling in a boat work better sometimes than still casting! Go figure? Who knows, maybe I will start a new fad called "circular" fishing, after all we occasionally run around in circles on dry land don't we? just much less productively
than circular fishing.
