I heard that Redmond reservoir is ice free, and I had luck catching pike there last May. I'm planning on heading out that way some time soon. I was just wondering if anyone knows if the pike are biting right now? If they are biting, what are they hitting? Any tips for this time of the year would be great.

My brother and I went out there a last weekend in our little boat and no bites. We were there all morning. Of course we the fishing gods were not smiling on us that day because we went to two different other lakes so we could just catch a fish and we didn't have one bite.

What were you fishing with? I have a two pole license, so I usually throw a worm from the bank to catch catfish or carp, and I chuck lures with my other rod. Were you trying to catch pike or something else? If the pike are not biting, I don't mind fishing for catfish. But, if nothing is biting down there, I would rather not make the trip.

The only time I have fished there is when I have gone done to duck/goose hunt. We always just threw out anchovies and caught catfish and pike. We fished at night also while we were camping. Never fished it during the day. Anchovies always seemed to catch them for us. goodluck

Went down there last March on two different occasions and caught multiple pike on both trips. Just put an anchovy 3 feet underneath a big bobber and wait[

] Oh and watch your poles closely because they hit with a vengeance! Bout had a couple poles fly off the shore and into the lake lol! It was really fun, but there isn't that much size to them. Average fish we caught was 22-27 inches.

That is excellent news! I am excited to hit Redmond now. You say you fished an anchovie under a bobber? Where do you get anchovies? Is that just like those little minnows that they sell at Sportsmans Warehouse? I'm used to throwing worms and cut-bait, but I've never fished with minnows or anchovies. And, I will be chucking lures with my second pole, do you have any lure recommendations for catching pike?

You can buy anchovies at Sportsmans Warehouse, but they are different than minnows, although larger carp minnows (6-8 inches) will work as well. I prefer the anchovies though. I have never thrown any lures at Redmond so someone else may know what works best down there, but I would be throwing big swimbaits or large blue fox or mepps spinners. Any crankbait would work as well. Good luck and I'm serious about watching your pole! I watched my buddy’s rod go air born about 3 feet high and flew 8-10 feet towards the water landing at the water’s edge where he was luckily able to retrieve it. Good times!

I'll have to hit up Sportsmans Warehouse for some anchovies before I head out, and I will definitely keep an eye on my pole. I had a rod yanked out of my boat by a catfish on Utah Lake last summer. I learned my lesson with that one.
