Well we made it to Birch Creek today. The road in was snow covered, glad we brought the sleds. We ended up parking on the turn off road and snowmobiling in from there. There was another group of people who tried to brave the road, and they only made it a 100 yards from where we parked (they ended up walking about a mile in and then up the dam). Fishing was slow for the first hour, then picked up a little bit. We lost a couple of tiger trout and missed at least two dozen bites (they were biting very slowly). We ended up catching several fatter rainbows. It seemed like some serious winter weather was heading in when we left at noon. The lake was snow covered with some slush. It was a hell of a walk today, but fun. Rob if you read this, it was fun to fish with you and you are more than welcome to come with us in the future. Send me a pm if you get on. At this point, I'm really just glad to have beer and a couch.

Thanks for posting your report Philbert, sounds like a tough day fishing. You said you had snowmobiles? Why all the walking?

We went up to the face of the dam, and they have fences and signs saying no motor vehicles, so we left them there. Is there another way to get onto the lake? Can you have snowmachines on the lake? I have only fished it one other time in winter, and we didn't have sleds that day and did the hiking thing. An easier way would be awesome, especially with the snowmachines.

Yes, you can drive around and access the lake from the north side by the inlet. It is a bit of a drive but it is possible. I'm sure you have noticed the split in the road as you drive to BC, well stay on the right, instead of going left. I would look at it on Google Earth, so you don't get lost, there are a lot of roads back there, especially if you have never been there. Even if you can not put the sleds on the ice, you won't have to climb that big him going up the dam. I have seen people launch small boats there as well.

Thanks. I will give it a shot. Probably this weekend.

FYI up and over the dam is shortest easiest path you can take this time of year. all of the routes involve hill climbing similair to the dam. and are considerably longer drives.
