Bear Lake Fishing Report:
Fishable ice still remains on the southern 1/4 of the lake and is 6-8” thick. There is also some fishable ice off the Cisco Beach area. The remainder of the lake is open water, but there are quite a few sheets of ice floating around on the lake. Boats can be launched at the Utah State Park Marina. Ramps at Rainbow Cove, Cisco Beach and First Point are frozen and you cannot launch boats in those locations. We urge anglers to be cautious when venturing out onto the ice. The ice fishing has slowed somewhat, but some anglers are still doing good. The best spots continue to be off SR-30 at first pull-off north of the rest area on the west side of the lake in 60 feet of water. Also, anglers are also catching some fish off the pump house and 1st Point on the east side of the lake. Anglers fishing from boats have caught cutthroat and lake trout off the rockpile area and off the Utah State Park marina. Both boat and ice anglers are using tube jigs and jigging spoons tipped with cisco and jigged right on the bottom. As the spawning time for Bear Lake whitefish concludes, fishing shoule pick up for cutthroat trout and larger whitefish over the rockpile area and along the weedbeds south of Gus Rich Point in 20-30 feet of water, but these area are seeing very little fishing pressure. If you are targeting whitefish, use small Swedish Pimples or Castmasters and tip them with a meal worm or salmon egg.
There is 4-6” no snow along the east side of the lake at this time and about 12”-20” of snow along the west side of the lake. Angler access points for shore launching boats have been plowed out along 150 South Street and 250 East Loop Street in Garden City.
Laketown Reservoir:
Ice is about 8-12” thick. You can no longer drive to the reservoir in a 4 wheel drive vehicle but fishing has been very good for rainbow trout using small jigs, Swedish pimples and flys (damels patterns) for those anglers accessing the reservoir by snowmobile. Try tipping your lure a meal or wax worm. Please keep this area clean since there are no trash cans in the area. Please pack in what you pack out or we may lose the opportunity to fish this body of water.
