TritonCarl took his annual Spring Trip to the Promised Land this past weekend. He survived the constant and painful insults and verbal bashing by myself and Hammer. We had a great four days of fishing, and some good old relaxation as well.
Saturday we put in at our Holiday Shores private ramp, and fished the midlake. Water was super muddy and started out really cold, in the 46 degree range. We had a beautiful day by closing time though. We stayed in the midlake area and got into some fish holding very tight to cover. As the day progressed we found much clearer water and commenced to wacking them. Ended Saturday with 12 keepers, and a best five of 19 lbs. Blades, traps, spooks and pointers were the baits of choice.
Sunday we put in at Honeycomb and fished from their to Alreds. Fish were tight to cover again, and was by far our toughest day. Ended the day with only 5 keepers, all of which lacked any serious size. Water temperature did climb into the low 50s in the Creeks.
Monday was the mother of all days for us. We fished upriver, and ended the day with 7 bass over 5 lbs, and a best 5 of 28-29 lbs. Fish were keying on the creek channel edges in a multitude of areas. Current was really pouring out which helped our bite tremendously. Crankbaits and jigs were the baits of choice. Just a phenominal day that had a final body count of 29 keepers.
Tuesday we fished in Coon and Jones Creeks, and struggled with numbers, but made up for it in quality. Fish were hanging on grasslines, and were eating the trap really good. Water temps were in the low 50s, despite the cooling trend. Pointer78s worked the best when we could find the water clear enough to fish them.
Today was a great day, out of Seibold upto Mill Creeks. We braved the back channel and managed to pull 17 keepers with a best 5 of 20 lbs. They ate the trap well again today, and were focused on shallow shell beds with grass nearby. The current and storms have really blown out the old dieing grass, leaving only the fresh electric green stuff. Water temps ended our day at 58 degrees in Seibold.
All in all just a fantastic 4 days of fishing on Guntersville. Heading to Panama City Beach for some deep sea fishing this weekend so I hope you'll see Minner and my smiling faces with hog Amberjacks.
