It is only about 4 inches long but I have no idea what it is.
It looks like a ling cod. Where did you catch it?

burbot or sculpin would be my guess

It looks like a sculpin to me.

Fred. Ugly Fred. Sculpin. Not a burbot. Pray to whatever God you believe in that it ain't a burbot, and that no IDIOT BUCKET BIOLOGIST is even thinking of moving those boogers anywhere else in Utah.

It's a sculpin. The old timers used to pay us as kids to go catch them out of the little bear. They used them for catching macs at bear lake. They always called them bullheads for some reason.

Thanks for all the help. When I google sculpin that sure is what it looked like. Never seen one of these guys before.

If I ever run across a fish like this again at Strawberry is it a fish that is desired in that lake?
We catch those things all the time on the White River in North Central Arkansas to fish for bigger trout. I have seen those a ton. It's a sculpin. Ugly things, though. Some sculpin are more red, but there are plenty that look just like that too.

If they catch trout I should have chopped it up and fished with it!!! Nothing was working for me, maybe this would have caught a trout or two there. Now I will never catch one again knowing this.[crazy]
Sculpin are all over the place. They can't maintain buoyancy so they are always found on the bottom. Most fish like to eat them. That pic is one of the biggest ones I have seen!

Bullhead is what we've called them for years. Caught them out of the Big Cottonwood along with the Duchesne and Strawberry rivers, trout love 'em.

It's a Sculpin, for sure. I've seen them in a few colors, really green, Redish, brown... I think they can match the bottom some what.

It's fine. They are native to the streams that fill the reservoir. They probably aren't too common in the reservoir itself though. The salt water version can be bright red, and has somewhat of a venom in its' spines.

Sculpin! Size is normal too

My money is betting on its a Sculpin looks similar to the one I caught on the Weber. Im guessing with the spring run off it got pushed down stream into the reservoir.

Ive heard of bullheads before but didnt know what one was until now. Ive had older guys tell me they used to catch the crap out of fish using them on the bear river

There is also a Bullhead cat fish "yellow belly" that is extremely common on the Bear river.
