Alright, Thought long and hard about this post. 1. this is a predominantly male forum. 2. this may explain my user name crazycanuck. 3. I may just be completely nutso.
But, Since I would expect the same crazy posts from my fellow fishers, I decided I could not hold back.
Decided to fish Causey today. Figured it would be the last time I could get out in the next couple weeks. Usually fish Rockport or Echo since they are closer to home but wanted to make this day special. Could not get Causey out of my mind, so headed out at about 4am to make sure I was drilling holes at sun up.
Ice looked like ice until I was neck deep in freezing cold water. I have heard multiple stories about falling through the ice, but I never could have imagined how incredibly horrific it really is. I did not think once about ditching my gear as it all has some sentimental value to me so I held on for dear life, auger, poles, coffee/Kahlua and all.
When at last I thought this might be the end for me, I was pulled out and sitting wet on a rock with still all my gear in my hands. Covered with a blanket and asked if I was alright, my hero walked up the hill and disappeared.
So, If you are really still reading this, my day was shot. walked up to my car, stripped down to my skimmies, cranked the heat and decided to head for home. BUT, where was my hero? No other cars? no one on the ice? My brain may have got frost bite?
Many times fishing at sun up I think "this is truly Heaven on earth". Today I believe I experienced my guardian fishing angel watching over me.
