I was cleaning some fish today and spotted a few fishing shows coming on TV and thought it would be a good combination. The modernized direction that some of these shows have taken is somewhat disturbing. I wont mention the names of the two shows but one was roughly based on urban situated fishing and the following show followed some guy that apparently hyped but acted like it was the first time he'd fishing, I think it was the guy from limp biscuit, if I spelled that correctly. At least the the rapping theme song sounded like them.
The first show had some lure to it, especially since it was going to be about ice fishing and I thought I'd learn something new for next season, OK the host was some annoying guy from New Jersey but at least it was about fishing, so I watched it. The goal was to catch five or so species in Minnesota, but the bulk of the show was him talking real world style about everything other than the fishing, restaurants, himself, how cold it was and how funny the little poles were. I did see him catch a three inch perch and the guy he was with caught a six inch pike or something, then he complained about how cold it was and failed to get a crappie and a walleye. The other show really couldn't be considered a fishing show, he was with a former football player who was able to fish on his country clubs pond, maybe one solid minute of actual fishing where they were catching some bass under five inches at best, most of the show was talking about golf, then it turned into that horrible cribs show, then 20 more seconds of fishing where they got a bass they claimed was 5 lbs, something that might be interesting if it wasn't a small golf pond that no one was allowed to fish on. Then they ended with some phony arrest where they acted like they got caught sneaking into the same pond at night. I did learn a lot about fish on the bow hunting show that followed though, or hatcheries in Kansas, it was a little disappointing as a hunting show, since the host in a wheelchair missed both deer he shot at and also didn't offer a single tip.
