Well, with the recent weather and today forecast, had high hopes for today but got shut-out skunked.
Set up on the point closest to the harbor around 1pm. Being that this was my first outing of spring I took a whole bunch of gear out with me, as I do each year, before widdling down to the essentials. I was fishing for everything today. Had two new home made carp baits on hair rigs, fished for striper with worms, bait fish, and Storm shad swim baits, and some topwaters. Even went poking for catfish with garlic shrimp and into the reeds for LMB with a mini torp. Not a thing all day. One gentleman across the water from me appeared to have similar luck. The jury is still out on the carp baits as I didn't even so much as see a carp today. I'll keep trying them and see if the fish like them as much as I think they will. Hoping that it was simply the afternoon doldrums that kept the bites away today, as I'll be out looking for fish again at sunrise tomorrow. Considering going back to hemmenway, or perhaps making the drive out to Overton. A report will follow.
I've been assuming cut bait and swim baits are the go-to at this time of year, but these are not my native waters. I'm a saltwater striper fisherman still trying to figure out how the freshies roll.....
