Ive got two reports here. My brother and I hit Sand Hollow in Utah on Sun the 19th and then Undurtow and I hit Lake Mohove this past Saturday.

Sand Hollow is a nice little place. We launched there about 7 and the wind didnt allow us to work finesse baits very well. We were getting blown around and just couldnt settle down over the structure. We ended up with 6 largemouth, the largest was just short of 2.5lb throwing cranks near shore structure.

Undurtow and I launched at Cottonwood on Friday night and drove 20+ miles up the river to our secret pig striper cove and again missed a huge blowup. (three blowups missed now) After getting slapped up river, we headed for mohave at first light to throw some topwater and see what happens. We worked a few coves south of cottonwood and finally picked up a 1.5lb smallmouth and a nice fatty 3.7 pound largemouth. We had another fish lost near the boat. We only fished for a few hours and again the wind started getting nasty and we had to call it.

On sunday, I went for a ride through the narrows and over to the far side of the virgin basin. I was exploring for some new bass spots and found a few promising locations. I had only one hit on Sunday and it was huge. I was working a jig on my dropshot set-up with 8lb test and I hooked into a HUGE smallmouth. This guy was at least 4-6lbs and went aerial three times before he caughed up the jig. Dayum I was pissed. My biggest smallie is only 2lbs Sad

Good Times. Heres some pics. Smile

Sounds like you been having fun and been getting all over the place [cool] great reports and pics. What kind of topwaters were you throwing at mohave? And how many did Undertow get [cool]

I didn't catch anything on topwater. I was crankin. One of the bass from Mohave spit up several sets of claws into my livewell. Deffinately munchin on craws down there right now. I may be back out there this weekend with some soft craw baits.

So where did you get that big shad...did you catch it or net it or was inside one of the fish you caught?

actually, we were pulling out of las vegas wash and I saw a cormorant bird come up out of the water with what appeared to be a huge fish. The bird could not fly away with it and dropped it. It went back a second time and dropped it again. I swooped in and snatched it up. The thing was nearly 2lbs. [shocked]

I mean, dayum that is a huge shad. He was near sand island right in the center of the wash. Kinda bizarre. The water was at least 80' at that spot. I mean how far can that bird dive; maybe 20'. So you have 2lb shad cruising 20' or less of open water in the middle of the inlet part of the wash. I wonder how he grew so large with those swimming habits. A shad of that size, geez; I think it would take a 30plus fish to attempt it. those gizzards have some girth at that size.

Oh, and wear gloves when handling gizzards, they stink like no other fish [cool]

Nicely done bro! It's starting to turn on!! I launched out of Echo on Sunday, and had five in the boat by 8a.m. I will post some of the nice ones later. Wind got a bit too much and I was gone by 1. Water temp still a bit cold for beds, and doesn't look to get any warmer this week! Till next time!
