What a wild day for a tournament. I put the boat in this morning and it just wouldn't start. I finally got it turned over ran out to the appointed place, everyone was gone. Turned around and ran back to the back of Dallas Bay. Started working a little top water but after an hour of no action I decided to change baits for Stumpy. Started throwing a chatter bait and she worked hard for another hour. Still no fish.... I lost one on a spinner bait and it looked as if that was the way the day was headed. About that time Stumpy says I have a fish and starts reeling toward the boat. Next thing that happens is the fish decides to become air borne and Stumpy sees how big it is. (At this point I should add a little background. Stumpy is my just turned 13 year old niece. She is already 5'4" but she still is the shortest of my nieces which includes two others and stumpy's twin sister. She loves to fish and has been giving the blue gill around my dock and property nightmares. Also we slip out in the fall net a few shad and have a field day with largemouth and smallmouth on a couple of chosen spots. Alas this is her first tournament and I was standing proud with her in the weigh in line.) Anyway the fish came up and presented itself to her and the fight was on. Twice the fish ran under the boat and Stumpy deftly worked it back out and finally got it into the net. I just kept telling her to be calm and think before she got in a big hurry. Needless to say we fished hard the rest of the day and just couldn't find anymore. We both had a grand time and that is all that is important to me.
{P
