So I meet the Whizzle out at the ramp a bit after 5a on wed morning. I was a little late, thankfully he is an easygoing fellow.

We motor out to one of his favorite spots and almost immediately he nails one.

We fish a bit longer, then decide to beach the boat and check out some of the shore. The Whizzle sights one and it's on. After a few trips to the boat he gets the right bait on and nails her or a friend much like her. We lost her and had to relocate it....

We decide to check the shore a bit more and wouldn't ya know Whizzle spots a beautiful smallie. A quick toss and...

After this a bass boat moved in the cove and we decided to get back in the boat and try another spot. We fish for a while, trying various things. Then I see one sitting in some fairly shallow water behind a bunch of carp and I give it a quick toss and....

We spent an hour or so more sighting and chasing fish. Though we didn't get any more takers it was a blast fishing that way.

A couple of things of note about the trip. It really pays to fish with a knowledgeable person(especially the water you are fishing). I had been missing many fishing possibilities I had not considered. To be honest I had been totally lost about how to approach bass fishing on Mead. I am by no means an instant expert now, but I have a solid base and confidence which I hope will blossom into some nice black bass days out there. Also, besides being knowledgeable about the lake and tactics, the Whizzle is a phenominal net man. The pretty bass I am holding is only in my hands because he snagged her in mid-air as my knot failed. [blush]

Bottom line.. nice day, nice fishin', nice company.. it's one I will remember for quite a while.

Mark

ps. I did want to note, that we took turns casting to all the fish we sighted. Just so happens he's holding the majority of the fish cuz he knows what he's doing.

Well done. Wish I was there, whizzle let's hook up!

Helluva day out there mark!

The weather was perfect, the fishing was fun, and Mark is a great guy to fish with. Really, it could hardly have been better.
I got most of the same pics, but i just got the new camera, so I have to post em anyway.

We got out pretty early, despite the not-so-late start.

This smallmouth was awesome.

Mark's miracle fish.

(SIDE NOTE: Mark was using vanish when the knot broke mid-air on a jump. He was working the fish properly, and I watched him tie very good knots throughout the day. Just something to think about.)

I am still amazed that we landed that fish.

We had absolutely perfect weather all day.

And the final parting shot for the day. Off the water by about 1pm.

Wow you guys really knock em out [cool] Those are some sweet lookin bass. Looks like its that time of year. Its funny how you guys actually got out of the boat and hit up some bank action [cool] So ya were actually seein those sweet things before you were catchin em too cool man.

Hey Whizzle how do you think the bassin will be this year compared to last year? Will we see more smallies?

This makes me nuts. I've been out shore fishing 4 times in the last week looking for bass. Hiked 5 different coves and fished them all off 33 hole and not one fish. And here you guys can't stop catching them![Image: sleepy.gif]

Good fish, nice work guys....

Are you seeing the fish? If you can see them on their beds and they aren't biting what your throwing, then I can probably help you out. When Bass are protecting there beds, they aren't going to act the way they normally do, meaning they aren't looking for food. The best way I have found to catch a bedding bass is to fish real slow, get the bait on or near that bed and just let it sit there. If they aren't interested in it after a min. or more give it a twitch or two, but try not move it to much. Most if not everytime, they will mouth it off of the nest. You just gotta be quick to react, cause they won't hold on long. I am not sure how your fishing, but if your not trying this technique, give it a go.

Please release spawning Bass, even the males are important to the fry's survival.

No, I was generally just fishing any cover I came across and running crank baits as deep as I could. I would fish on beds IF I saw them, but I didn't see any....

There's better ways to cook a Bass![bobhappy]

That actually looks pretty disgusting....have at it!

Looks like you guys treat the Bass out there like you do your water.

Why protect a resource that will be dry in 10 years right?

I better get down there and fill my cooler.

Before I start running my mouth....

Come fishing UTExplorer. You might need help filling that cooler. Mead is a little different than what you are used to.

And we don't eat our black bass here. We have stripers for tacos.

All high and mighty...

That's funny.

"I would say everything I have so far, your the one getting so worked up. Cyprinid is pretty accurate for someone that is acting like a kid."

I have never had black bass myself. I heard they taste pretty good though. Just a big perch right.[:p]

I caught my first Largemouth in Lake Mead around 1992, my friends sister caught a 10.5 lb largmouth on live shad in 1995 right of that big long rocky point that was just outside to the left of Govt' wash. There are serious numbers of bass in Lake Mead. Still, I don't think I could keep one for table fare. [:/]

Of course, if I was starving; obviously that idea would go right out the window[Smile]

Way to slay them, guys. I've got some time off work coming up. I can't wait to get back out.

Hmm. Did tomtonesradio sign up under another account (utexplorer) so he could still raise he'll around here? haha. [fishon]

This is a good time of year to catch shallow bass. Try casting parallell with the bank and run a shallow crainkbait in about a foot of water as close to the weedline as possible! Good luck!!

Haha, I go on vacation and all hell breaks loose on the NV board.

Gonna have to delete some posts for the suits...
