[black] SEIFF is offering one of our traditional program.
Our final program of the season for April will again feature our traditional “The State of the Fish and Water” address for the 2011 general fishing season. Mr. Dave Teuscher, Fish & Game Fisheries Manager, has graciously consented to present his thoughts and findings for the upcoming fishing season. Mr. Teuscher’s presentations are both informative and insightful.[/black]
[black] [/black][black]
Past presentations have included results on how fish have survived the winter, growth rate of fish, catch rate, restoration and biology work on streams, type and stocking numbers of local reservoirs, current and projected water levels of reservoirs, any diseases noted during field research, and any proposed or passed rule changes that would affect our sport.
Dave is very knowledgeable when it comes to the state of our waters and what we can expect for the upcoming fishing season.
So plan to join us for a very informative evening.
Darrell Brown

A great presentation by Fish and Game!!

Thought I would share a few comments etc.

If you see "Angler Report Cards" fill them out. These are very important to the fishing in our region. I costs much less for F&G to do them than to do creel surveys to get the information they need to manage the fishery.

Another thing you may notice are the cameras at many of the parking and fishing access points. These are used to document usage. All of this information is taken to a state level and is used to justify our need for funds in our area.

If you want improvements in your fishery -- fill out the cards whenever you can.

Now a comment of my own- if you fish Black Canyon of the Bear area be sure and fill the cards out and tell them how much the whitewater releases are impacting our fishing.

On a safety note - If you go to fish Black Canyon this spring be sure and look at the water release "boater flow" schedule on http://www.pacificorp.com/es/hydro/hl/br.html# and also call Pacificorp at 1-800-547-1501 for flow information.

These flows are on the weekends and are very dangerous for wading fishermen. The water rises very quickly and is total mud. The wading in Black Canyon is dangerous without the increased flow -- with it, it is madness to get caught in. You can't see the ledges you have to walk on, and water that was knee high is suddenly waist high. If you aren't into body surfing class 5 kayaking water, then don't even think about going near it!!

In my opinion, it is a shame to have these just about every weekend all spring long. How many kayakers use them every weekend? Black Canyon used to be one of the few areas that you can still fish in the spring during the runoff.

With precipitation levels of 125% to 140% our waters will just about all fill this year with the exception of Blackfoot Res. and Bear Lake. But even they will be fuller than they have been in a lot of years - At least since the 1990s. With this good water year fishing should be better for a couple of years after. Expect high run off and continued high water for quite awhile. Also say goodbye to a lot of silt in the streams, and hello to spawning gravels that have been silted in for a few years!

Bonneville Cutthroat trout are just about ready to stock in the Thatcher area of the Bear River Drainage.

A study they are doing is tagging the trout they are stocking in American Falls Reservoir and seeing how many are showing up downstream of the dam. So far a lot are making it down there. The study will continue for about 2 more years, so if you catch a tagged fish please call it in.

Other projects include work on Trout Cr, Whiskey Cr, Lanes Cr, Diamond Creek, reconnecting Pebble Creek and maintaining the fences along the Portneuf. New restrooms were put in at Treasureton and a number of other improvements I can't remember.
