The last time I caught or saw a large bluegill was last year at the island off of hemenway/boulder harbor that has the concrete structure on it. I caught a bunch of small ones and one large bull around 6". I was cane poling them off the back of the beached boat with a single egg hook and a small piece of Berkeley worm. I could see them the whole time.

Small hooks and small baits in brushy areas would be your best bet. Try the small gulp earthworms.

I have a nice little 3wt fly rod that I would love to put on some bluegill if I could find a nice spot.. The chum balls I made and posted pics of are supposed to pull in the 'gills too. It's the reason I am trying them out. I really nice bull bluegill on a light weight fly rod is some of the funnest fishing out there for me Smile.

Anyhow... this is the first year I am making a concerted effort to fish mead. I am fishing different areas, and trying to get out as much as I can. If I find any decent bluegill spots I will share them with you guys.. at least by PM anyways [Wink].

I have read a lot of info that says the bluegill fishing is really good late spring/early summer. I have not experienced this myself however.

I'll be lookin'

There is a good population of bluegill in Mead, but due to our lack of heavy, shallow cover, they hold in slightly different areas.

Mead is tough for bluegill, the time yo would spend driving across the dam to temple bar area or down to Laughlin @ riverbend park (both have some bluegill), would be better spent driving up to Sandhollow Res. Sandhollow is just north of St George takes 2 hours doing speed limit to be on the water from Vegas. The bluegill are in prespawn right now and suspended over deep brush around 20 ft, but they are worth the drive and effort the only bluegill we keep there are the monsters. 3/4 to 1 1/4 lb bluegill, while the limit is 50 a piece we usually only keep around 20 for a fish fry. They are porkers which you can fillet. Don't be suprised if a giant 5 lb plus bass smokes a smaller bluegill while you reel it in. There is a bonus fish you will catch in the area as well, but you gotta go I will not mention them online. Here's a couple bluegill pics from Sandhollow and some bass pics from my last trip about 10 days ago. Small white grubs/gitzits usually are best, but also try trout magnets. I have had the best luck with minature 1.5" yum beaver tail grubs in white or motor oil. Good Luck.
