Has anyone ever had a successful crappie outing at Echo Canyon Reservoir?

I've been in Vegas over a year now and haven't wet a line once. Heck I even bought a license shortly after I moved here and never used it!

Hoping to get a soul cleansing 2-3 day trip in within the next few weeks. Saltwater has always been my passion but crappie fishing comes close!

[cool]I have fished Echo a few years ago and got quite a few crappie on a 4wt flyrod with a woolybugger from a floattube. I also got them on power worms and lipripper worms. If you stand on the dam facing the water, you'll want to fish the right side shoreline close to the weeds.

Thanks for the info BigE. I've got literally 1,000 tubes/grubs that need to be chewed on.

Last summer I caught crappie by the dam using a 3" power worm. I fished close to the dam from a kayak.

A few years ago when Echo was really shallow.... like almost empty there was a whole buncha xmas trees sunk by the dam. As you face the dam on the water bear a little to the right of the dam's center and you will run into them... besides that spot the damn is spotted w/ sunk xmas trees. I took some photos but gonna have to find those. Hope that helps...

I almost forgot to tell you this... slipped my mind last night. There is a small lake in the Key Pittman area that was stocked with white crappie several years ago. I read an article in the paper a while back that said they caught quite a few there. Might wanna give it a try. Not nearly as pretty as Echo Canyon if you're looking to camp as well.... but makes a day trip do-able as it's basically just past Alamo which is half the distance to Echo. I been meaning to get up there and fish for those guys for quite a while now... just never have.

Thought I might give you another option...

Nesbitt Lake(just looked it up)

I've fished Key Pttman from a kayak but mostly for LM bass. These bass average only about 8-10" so they are small compared to going another 60 miles north to Sunnyside such as Adams-McGill or Haymeadow.

NDOW did recently plant white crappie and bluegill but the bluegill are not doing so well. I saw several bluegill floating on the water. There is also black bullhead catfish in Key Pittman.

However, KP/Nesbitt Lake gets really weedy by the beginning of summer and its best to fish from a small boat between Febuary to June. There is not alot of shoreline fishing available with all the high reeds. KP is closed to boat fishing during waterfowl season. There is no camping available and only a chemical toilet near the entrance. Its one mile north of Hiko and you have an entrance gate that must remain closed once entering into the area
