I caught my first fish of the season today, and as i was trying to unhook it the barb got caught in the gum muscle, fat i don't know. So i didn't want to keep the bass out to long, so i took my pliers and bent the barb and it came out. Any tips on getting it out of the mouth without messing with the barb?

As long as a fish isn't hooked in the gills and you unhook quickly using a hemostat or pliers.

Maybe weigh and snap a picture get em back in the water, make sure they take off... If they don't take off right away grab em by the lip and pull and push some water through their gills, make sure a fish swims off... If that doesn't help you can try a nice corn meal with hush puppies! heh
