Hello all,

Thinking of heading over to Vernon this weekend- anyone been recently? I've never been, so any tips on how to be successful? Any advice would be great.

Thanks!

We tried it last week but as soon as we got our lines in the water it started snowing and blowing so we headed out, it was a muddy mess due to all of the rain. My success in the past has been near the south end where the water comes in using traditional baits like power bait or worm and marshmallow combo. If baitfishing is too slow for you then casting a jake or spoon at em catches a few. We saw a lot jumping out there last week but haven't heard any reports. Have pulled some nice browns out of there this time of year. Good luck!!

If the weather holds up tonight I plan to hit it early in the morning. It'll be the first time I've been there as well. I'll try bobber and worm, a gold kastmaster and a floating rapala. If it goes well I might drag my son out sunday.

I took some scouts out there last weekend. It was no bueno. We had a variety of approaches and I was stuck on shore rather than being afloat. The other scout leader with me brought his kayak but didn't do so hot. I threw spinners, floated worms, etc. I was the only one to catch a fish early Saturday morning (before the snow and wind started) and I was using a method that I was introduced to in this state.

One of the scouts handed me a small treble hook and a bottle of floating power goo/bait. I think he said it was lemon twist. I put it on a 14" leader with a crane swivel and a sinker just above the swivel so it would sit on the bottom and let the hook/goo ball float up. Then you sit and wait. I had one thief make off with my bait and then a few minutes later I drug in a 14" bow. Must have been a holdover from last year. I saw a group doing better with float and fly rigs and saw two fish taken on small spinners with gold blades.

Bring on spring...please. Bring on the kitties, white bass, etc.

Good luck at Vernon.

It has been years since I have fished Vernon. My favorite spot has been about in the middle of the lake on the West side. Worms and spinner baits worked best for me.

Hit Vernon this morning early and caught two browns on worms near the south end. My daughter hauled in a nice brown. She was a trooper, and her siblings were all jealous.

Nice work and super congrats to your daughter on that beautiful fish! I imagine that there are more than her siblings that are jealous now[Wink].

That gives me hope for this weekend. Taking the family out this weekend for some 1st time float tubing, bank tangling, camping, and 4 wheel riding!

Sounds fun- I haven't been camping there for over 15 years since I was a scout. Has it changed much? A mnt lion was sneaking around our camp one trip out there

A buddy and I went out to Vernon today and fished for a couple hours- good weather, very little wind. In about 2 hours we caught 10 fish between us, mostly smaller planted rainbows, we also caught 3 small tiger trout. Best success was with a Jake or a gold Kastmaster. We tried worms but just got very light bites, hard to get to shore.

Good times were had by all.

Nice-- was the water level pretty high?

Thanks for the update! There still has to be a few piggie browns in there somewhere. Hopefully I have a full report for you on Monday!

It was the first time I had been to Vernon, but my buddy who had been there before said the water level looked really good, it looked pretty full to me.

A good place to take the kids now everyone was catching fish but most were around 10 inches. The water is at capacity and so were the campgrounds and the shoreline.
