Ok this is all new to me as I'm from the east coast. Thinking of trying out the little salmon ( riggins) for salmon. Any ideas on rigs appreciated. Asked a couple friends they said 6' leader 3/0 hook to barrel swivel. attach crosslock to barrel - add weight.

that rig should work just fine
I usually run about a three foot leader to a three way snap swivel and then punch a hole in the lead and attach to the snap part of the swivel. I use 2/0 octopus hooks but your 3/0 should be just fine, its all personal preferance.

I would say a 6' leader is a bit much for the little IMHO. I typically run 24-36 inches of 25lb leader with a 30lb main line. Corkies/yarn, eggs, yarn, and tuna balls all work well. Arm yourself with a heavy action rod and a quality reel for the little; if you don't turn your fish right when you hook it you can pretty much consider it gone....... Bring plenty of lead too, depending on the flows you might need a fairly significant piece to get your gear down into the zone.

6' leader is way too much. They will work but your going to go through a mile of line in a day as snaggy as salmon fishing is. Expect to loose 15-50 rigs a day depending on where your fishing and how long you fish. Chinook are not leader shy. I never run more than 25" of 25-30 leader with 45-65 braided main line. 2/0-3/0 barbless hooks are the norm.
