They can live in a pond? I thought they were only in fish tanks. How big do they get and what ponds are they in? Ive never heard of people catching them in the area I live in ( north caronlina)

Well, they are in fish tanks until someone unknowingly releases them into a pond. Pacu, though related to piranna, are mostly vegitarian, though I believe they sometimes eat insects. They look mean, but they are not the verocious carnavores that their close cousins are.
It's a very bad idea to realease invasive species into an ecosystem that does not sustain that specific species naturally. The snakehead is a perfect example of this. If there are Pacu in any ponds or rivers in your location, that's because some bonehead let them go in there.
If you catch one, rather or not you eat it, you need to toss it on the bank. I would also call your local DNR and report it. Anywhere you currently know Pacu to be, I would call DNR and let them know now. They would be interested in that information.

they servive in waters that do not freeze over. they are also a nusance fish as well. they have found them in lake earie near the firmy plant just south of the detroit river. due to the worm waters released by the nuke plant the paco and perana are doing quite well.
I would imagine that in a few years we can expect to see some of them atapting to live in the friged waters away from the plant.
this dude said it was 40 pounds I saw the pis on a cell phone .I'll try to call him and send pic. here are some pics I took one could be 20to30pounds I guess.same lake.,I hooked some allready, O god. what a fish.underwater rocket.

I would guess the one that is in your photo to be closer to 4 or 5 pounds, rather than 20 or 30.
