I've appreciated helpful fishing tips many of you have generously offered and here is one I have for the masses - particularly beginning flyfishers. I bought a stimulator pattern 2 years ago & amazingly haven't lost it yet. I've caught dozens of trout on it during the summer in the creeks around Salt Lake. It barely floats now because it has hardly any hackle left and I miss a lot of hits because the hook is dull - but it still works! I need to take the time to learn how to tie this pattern. This is a particularly good pattern for beginners because it is very visible, easy to present, and fish dig it!

And it works just about ANYWHERE!! I agree, it is a great go-to fly.

Streamer/wet fly: size 8 black woolley bugger.
Dry fly: Parchute or traditional Adams
My father would vote for a renegade fished wet or dry.
Good fishing!

Bead Head Pheasant tail will work almost anywhere, any day of the year. My goto fly.

I would say that my favorite fly to catch fish on would have to be the wooly bugger/leech patterns. Love to use them at Strawberry, Jordanelle, and even in the Uintahs and on the Provo River during the spawn too. My favorite nymph is the beadhead hare's ear, which I often use on the Provo. My favorite dry fly would have to be the Adams for a well-rounded fly that works in many situations.

Frogfish
you should take up tying. one fly will never do the job in all situations.
most fisherman do not understand the term "match the hatch".
Worms always work for spin fishing but when using a fly rod the prodomiant bug is the best thing to imitate.
My favorite fly, is the last one I invented.
