] A couple trout this evening in a family friendly fishing lake up here in N. Idaho. The little one couldn't keep his hands off the fish (his first real experience with fresh fish).

That's awesome. Looks like you've got one proud young angler there! My boy can never resist playing with our catch.
So he haul those in on a Spidey or Spongebob pole? Helped out a fellow and his son at a local pond. It sure was fun to see how hard that 3yr old worked to haul in one of the fresh little planter bows.
That's just the best! Better frame those pics! They grow up so quickly.

Ya take advantage now while you can. Soon they will be teenagers and you won't be cool enough or they will only want to hang with friends and date. I had fishing buddies once too. It is tough to get them to go any more [bobbeaten]. Ron

What are the Idaho regs for a 2 or 3 year old carrying a pole? He doesn't have to have a license does he? Or do I just have to get a 2 pole permit?
I think there was a thread on this recently, but I never could determine a clear cut answer.
thanks!

You can have a pole and the child can have a pole as long as you have a fishing licence. You don't need a two pole permit unless you plan on fishing with both poles. That can be a problem. If you have a licence you can have one pole. The child can have one pole. If the child goes off to catch a lizard and leaves the pole unattended in the water with you then you are fishing with two poles. Ron

I went to sight in my 22 Mag last weekend and was surprised when my six year old wanted to go. Even more surprised when she wanted to shoot it, and ended up being a really good shot. After she shot all my ammo she wanted me to go get some more. If we ever get a decent weekend she wants to go shoot some chucks.

That's awesome. I did the same with my kids and my son is now a Bass Pro with Bassmasters and FLW. I couldn't keep him away from water. He was always jumping on his bike with his pole and heading to some of the canals around Meridian. Enjoy him while you can, my son now lives in Phoenix and I only see him a couple of times a year.

Hey, what a cute little guy. You have a fishing buddy in the making for sure. I just wanted to share an event that hit me over the head.. hard. Sometimes that is the only way to get my attention.
I have a son that is 4 yrs older than my daughter. We were an active hunting/ fishing/ camping family like many of you are. I thought I had all the bases covered as far as getting the family out and enjoying Idaho. When my daughter was 12 or 13 she asked me why I never took her fishing. I answered that we went fishing a lot but she said no dad, you take my brother fishing why can't just you and I go alone. Thud, right in the head, she was right. I started taking her and it was wonderful! I cherish the one on one time that I had with each of my kids. We developed a closer bond and more importantly a trust level that has been golden. We learned how each other thought and how we felt about different thing. I have one memory of my daughter and I driving home from Henrys lake talking. I was puffing on my usual cigar ( I never smoke a cigar unless I catch a 20 in or better fish) when she asked me what it tasted like. I asked her if she wanted to try one and she said yes. So here we are tooling through last chance smoking like a freight train. Her curiosity was satisfied and as you might have guessed, smoking was never anything I had to worry about .
My sweet daughter Has been married and away for 20 yrs now but I have grandchildren that I love dearly. I make it a point to take one each summer for a week and just spend time with each other. It still works! I feel it is even more important now since everyone knows that grandkids come to "Grandmas House" to be spoiled by her. Hey, it works for me.
