Went to Mantua last Thursday.
SLOW, SLOW, SLOW, The water was around 50 deg. we pitched our usual jiggs cranks and spinners. Joe even tried a crawler under a bobber. Zero![frown]
We fished the inlet to the point. About a half mile area. The water by the inlet is clouded by the spring runoff but clears up about 100 yards out. The weeds are close to the bottom and just starting to grow.
We NEED more sun and warmer days.Has anyone had better luck there than us this spring? By the Cherry Days thing should be at its best so I am hoping things pick up soon.[:/][fishin]

I was there Monday, May 2. The temp was about 49-50. I had two bites one I think was a trout the other may have been a bass, but I'm just guessing.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like we STILL need some warmer weather before the fish decide it's spring!

I'd think those fresh planter-bows would be pretty frisky and settled in by now, but maybe you're targetting the bass and 'gills?

At least you can enjoy the weeds being down for a while.
I've been fishing pretty much every night on my way back from work targeting the bass, only about an hour a night. It is very slow. I caught one nice 4 lb bass last week that was the biggest bass I've caught out of there, but that's about it. Seems this early you don't catch very many but the ones you do are decent sized.

I went up Saturday, mainly to make sure my boat had wintered okay. Never seen as crowded, but I ususally skip fishing on Saturdays. Water was a tad over 56 on the surface, didn't test lower.

I'd post a pic, but I'm sure everyone knows what a Mantua moss fish looks like. Saw nothing else caught and talked to no one who landed anything.

Myself and a buddy were up there saturday and landed 23 bass from the boat. We were fishing open spots in the weeds througout the lake, that seemed to be where they were all at in the deeper water.

23 In the weeds? I didnt look in the middle of the lake for the weeds. Around the first 200 yards from the shores had zero weeds.
That would explain where they were. Bass like cover, and wont generaly venture far from it. Looks like you found them. Thanks for posting.
I will have to look.[:p]

What I'd like to know is what were you using that they enjoyed attacking so much? Tubes? So deeper water now, then they'll move shallow when it warms. Are you finding the 'Gills out there in the deep weeds too?

Have you seen the new dock at the NE end? I haven't looked at the south yet.

If you haven't seen - might be interested in checking the [url "http://wildlife.utah.gov/dwr/fishing/stocking.html"]stocking [/url]report. May not be a bunch of 'em, wonder if they are having a test run. But decent sized if you ask me. Maybe they should put on a slot, so they all stay for a couple years, and get frisky out there!
Would you mind telling us where you found these weeds and fish in the lake. If it's best for you, you could send a pm. [Smile] Truly don't want to "hot spot" if you don't want to give it up. [Smile]

As for me I didnt see any weeds and think they wont be grown till next month.
The weeds must be in the middle cuz I wasnt there.

I kept the boat positioned in about 12 feet of water and castes out toward the middle of the lake. You need to use your finders to find most of the taller weeds. I used a 5 inch power worm with a light bullet weight to cast on top of the weeds and drag the worm slowly through the stuff the bites are very sensitive so you gotta feel em. With the water temps being what they were the bass are feeding more but it's not warm enough for them to start moving in shallow yet if you see a blue nitro out on the lake with a saints sticker on the motor that is me come over and say hello

Regarding the gills I did not see any but the trout were going stir crazy while I was there

Im glad you found the fish! The weeds are short of the surface then? That is very usefull information. I should be able to get back out there in a week or two.
I was mostly useing a 3 inch grub jigg or a crank bait.
Couldnt slow them down enough for the bass in there lethargic condition to react to. Should have though of a worm.
With the warmer temps that are coming it should pick up soon.
Hope to see ya.
